Share the wealth and regular games rrb GETTING A HEAD START On Wednesday, October 16, a meeting of the parents of pre school, kindergarten, and grade one and two children was held, in which\ the parents learned the dif- ficult task facing the child when confronted with learning to read. 'Mrs. Cornell and Mrs. Wharram, consultants from the Peel County Board Of Education, taught the parents as six year olds. An example of this was a lesson in which the parents were given symbols and were then asked, after 'seeing this system, to read using the symbols. This workshop was well at- tended and the Howick Central School staff certainly hopes these in attendance found it to be a profitable evening and an insight into what the child experiences when learning to read. Gary Grainger CROSS COUNTRY MEET On October 24, the schools in the northern part of Huron County went to a field across from the Turnberry Central School for a Cross Country Meet. The divisions were 10 and under, 11 and 12 and 13 and over. The course was about 11/4 miles long. It consisted of hills, long grass, bush, aid swamps. The fastest time was 5 minutes by Nell Van Loo of Howick.
