`acv.. James Fraser, former
tor, at Verdun Baptist Church,
bec; now retired.aitd residing
ndon, was guest speaker at
morning and evening worship
\services in the Wingham Baptist
'Church on Sunday.
Mr. Fraser used as his text
Paul's words to the Romans in
the 16th verse of the first chap-
ter: "I am not ashamed of the
gospel of Christ." He spoke of the
power of God which changes indi-
viduals and enables men to lead -
useful and satisfying lives.
During his talk, he used several
examples of men who became
great when the Hand of God
transformed them.
Mrs.- Raymond Neill. presided
at the console of the church organ
and Mrs. Henry tenPas sang .a
solo. John Melton assisted Mr.
Fraser during the service.
Following the morning wor-
ship, a communion service was -
held.
Next week's speaker at the
Baptist Church will be Rev.
Armand Wright, former chaplain
of the Guelph Reformatory.
Services will be held at 11 a.m.
and 7:30 p.m.
held by Wroxeter` UCW
WROXETER - The United
Church Women of the , local
church held their fall Thank -
offering service on Sunday
morning with members of the
group participating. The scrip-
ture was read ' by Mrs. W.
Matthew and the offering was re-
ceived by Mrs. H. Coupland and
Mrs. J. Dunbar: The hand of
fellowship was extended by
George Gibson and Ken Bennett.
The president of the United
Church Women, Mrs. L. Galla-
her, was complimented on her
leadership of the group. The
choir, under the direction of the
organist, Mrs. Edwin Martin,
sang "God Bless Our Land" and
the Maori melody, "Search Me".
The minister, Rev. W. Ball, In closing, the speaker urged
gave the message, using as his his congregation to "put God in
theme "The Tyranny of Things". the centre of your lives and you
will find life more abundant.
Beyond this life is a life of joy and
peace."
He spoke of being ruled by our
secular lives to the point of -
losing Jesus. He referred to the
story from St. `Luke's Gospel,
telling 'hew Mary and Joseph,
"supposing Him to be in their
company", went a day's journey
before missing Jesus who had
remained behind' in . Jerusalem.
Mary was preoccupied with other
things and did not realize that
Jesus was not with her.
Mr. Ball said that we are often,
preoccupied with trivial matters,
then we waken to the fact that
Jesus is not with us. In our hectic
lives we crowd Jesus out, we lose
God. As did Mary and Joseph, we
often have to turn back to find the
Savior.
