Fend lack closes
Italy's'museums
Tourists visiting Italy this
summer may be out of luck as
many government galleries
,are closing as they have prac-
tically
raytically no guards to protect
the exhibits, while others can-
not pay wages and upkeep or
have been declared structur-
ally unsafe.
Among those closed was the
world-famous Brera Gallery
in Milan, which contains ma-
jor works of Raphael, Titian,
Tintoretto and Canaletto, be-
cause there is no money for
attendants' uniforms and the
condition of electrical and wa-
ter systems is "dangerous."
