"The Apprenticeship of Duddy
Kravitz" is probably one of the
finest motion pictures you will
see this year and it is all
Canadian. It is the story of a
young Jewish boy from Montreal
who is constantly being told by
his 'grandfather that a man who
isn't rich is nothing, So Duddy
' works and works hard but again
the old adage, 'you can't buy
happiness', proves true as our
hero ends up .with success but
nothing else.
The movie was made in little
more than two months in and
around Montreal. It was shot on alp
relatively small budget of one
million dollars and starred
unknowns, Richard Dreyfuss,
who was hailed in Berlin for his
great performance, Micheline
Lanctol, Randy Quaid and, the
only actor who is a bit familiar,
Jack Warden. It was produced by
John Kemeny and directed by
Ted Kotcheff who attended the
big event in Berlin and accepted

It was sad to hear of Tony
Fontaine's death of cancer in Los
Angeles: Tony was primarily a
singer of country and pop music
until 1957 when he almost died in
a car accident. His* life was
pared, he believed for a very
special 'reason so he devoted the
remainder of his life witnessing.
to God, through the filmed -story
of his life, and the singing of
sacred music. The special pur-
pose for which he was spared has
obviously been fulfilled and now,
at 47, he is dead. But perhaps the
