The money, gathered in a silver collection during an exhibition slow pitch ball game between Brophy's Bros. Tires and CKNX Try, Hards, will assist ,the association; in " their con- tinuing Progra;nior the mentally retarded. Bill Stephenson, president of the association, accepted the money from the fans and player representatf ves Des Brophy and • Ray Baynton of CKNX. Two young ladies wandered through the bleachers with a large refuse container and the crowd responded, with the $100 total. Meantime, a ball game of sorts was played with Brophy's emerging as 30-10 winners, after nine .hectic innings. Brophy, Bob 'Bran- don, Glen Casemore and Gord Welwood.. \' In regular WOAA league play, Brophy's sneaked by New Hamburg 8-7 and . bombed Lin- wood 23-5, earlier in the week. Brophy's 8 — New Hamburg 7 Wingham registered their fourth straight win by less a three -run margin and also came from behind an early deficit to nip New Hamburg 8-7 with two runs in the eighth inning July 24 on the local diamond. Brophy's made the best of ten hits in this one as New Hamburg committed only one error against six bobbles by the locals. tioug Foxton, Eql Diechert and Dick Eskerod were good for two hits each for Brophy's with George Foulon, Ken Saxton, Gerry Edwards and Bruce Foxton connecting for the other safeties. Edwards poled a solo homer, the only one by either team, for Wingham in the sixth inning. George Foulon played a strong game for Wingham until he pulled a leg 1nuscle and was forced to leave in the l `fourth frame. The injury put him in the hospital for a day and a half and he'll be out of the local lineup for a few games. Brophy's 23 — Linwood 5 Wingham hOhd it field day July 26, in Linwood, exploding for 27 hits and runs in every inning, to sideline a spunky Linwood outfit 23-5 for their 14th win of the season against only six losses. While Brophy batters pounded out five homeruns and 14 extra base hits, diminutive Gordie Welwood pitched and •battedhis mates to an early lead. Batting tenth and last in the lineup, Gordie found holes for a single, double and homerun in five trips to the plate while holding Lin- wood to only 11 hits from his pitching mound. Other Brophy homers were hit by Ken Saxton, Gerry Edwards, Des Brophy and Dick Eskerod. Edwards, Doug Foxton and Gary Storey had four hits and .Saxton, Brophy, Welwood and Eskerod had three safeties. Bob Foxton had two hits and Glen Casemore one to complete the local total. ' Mgr.
