meeting in Ripley church
The May meeting of the Mait-
land Presbyterial Society held
afternoon and evening sessions in
Knox Presbyterian Church, Rip-
ley, on May 13, the themes being
"Power" and "Reap" respect-
ively. Mrs. Doug Martyn pre-
sided effectively at the organ,
and Mrs. J, W. English capably
chaired both assemblies.
Devotions in the afternoon
were conducted by Mrs. Ira
Dickie, Mrs. Brute Hamilton and
• Mrs. Lloyd MacDougall of 'South
Kinloss, and in the evening by
Mrs. H. Congram, Mrs. Ralph
Nixon and Mrs. C. Wood of
Wingham. Visitors were wel-
comed by Mrs. George Suther-
land and Mrs. J. MacLean. Mrs.
Evan Keith's financial report
added a note of cheer as it re-
vealed considerable increase in
givings thus far.
A highlight of the afternoon
was the presentationof honorary
life membership certificates, one
to Mrs. D. Rae of Wingham by
Mrs. T. A. Curie, a second to
Mrs. Henderson of Lucknow by
Mrs. Joesph Little, and a third
donated by Alvin Mundell to Mrs.
Joesph Smith of Lucknow, pre-
sented by her step -daughters,
Mrs. Mundell and Mrs. Brisbane.
Greetings from Presbytery
were expressed by Rev. R. H.
Armstrong. Synodical reports
from Mrs. Robert Arbuckle, Mrs.
Joesph Little, Mrs. AEwan Mac-
Lean, Mrs. Bruce Hamilton,
Joseph Martin, Mrs. Keith
Evans, Mrs. Ralph Nixon and
Mrs. Glen Noble proved inter-
esting and informative. From
them the group, learned that
many new books are available;
, regarding supplies the money sit -
%lotion is being stressed more now
• and it may come in at all sea -
Sons; good used clothing will still
be accepted at Evangel Hall,
Scott Mission,' and Goderich Psy-
Shiatric Hospital; each W.M.S.
Member is a V.I.P. and every
church group should be com-
p sed of folk of all ages to over-
come the generation gap; some
congregations do not sponsor any
limier groups; good leadership is
a prime -need in all groups; books
are not being used enough;
• O.O.C. and Explorers have de-
creased in number's; the Glad
Tidings is used by less that half of
the W.M.S. members; we should
give monetary support to the
Bible Society, in Memoriams,
,etc; after our allocations have
been met.
Mrs. Mel Ritchie introduced
guest speaker Mrs. J. M. Burnett,
council president, who, in the
afternoon, spoke on "What is dis-
cipleship?", and in the evening
showed slides of her world tour as
she commented interestingly on.
them. She pointed out that disci-
pleship involves • loyalty to a
cause, expects the responsibility
of service, shares a faith, gives
love, makes use of one's talents,
has a job to do, makes fse,of each
opportunity, requires much of
each of us, gives a need to exist.
Duets by Mrs. Alvin Mundell
and Mrs. Bruce Darling, also by
Misses Flora Simpson and Diane
MacKenzie added much to the
enjoyment of the day.
