facts about abortion
A group of about 100 PP '
turned out at F. E. Madill S
dary School on Sunday evening tae
hear Dr. Hart Berner, head of the
physio. department of Wilfrid
Laurier University in Waterloo,,
speak in support of the unborn
children of Canada.
In his opening remarks Dr,
Bezner, explained that there are
two types of abortions perforuned
in this country: a) those done ter
medical reasons and b) theft
done for social reasons. He has ne
quarrel with the first type but he.
has launched a personal cabs-
paign against the latter and.
hopes to provide the average per,,
son with scientific facts supporta
ing his stand. Dr. Berner charged
that in the last five years as many
as 150,000 social abortions have
been performed in Canada.
The speaker attacked the pro -
'abortion view that the child is,•

On a motion by C-oderich Reeve
Deb Shewfelt and Grey Township
Reeve Charles Thomas, county
council for Huron has agreed to
look into the possibility of setting
up a special committee to study
restructuring in the county.
Reeve Shewfelt said the county
needed to take a close look at its
system of government as well as
its priorities for the future. He
advocated, however, a "mix" of
urban and rural people on any
committee which is appointed.
Reeve Elgin Thompson of the
Executive Committee, said
members of that committee had
been advised by Hofs. John
White's office that restructuring
is not necessary -at the present
time for Huron.
"Why do we still harp on it?"
asked Thompson.
However, despite Thompson's
pleas, the motion received the
approval of council.

Credit Unions
amalgamate
The Belgrave and Wingham
Community Credit Unions have
now been merged into, one and
will now be called the North
Huron Credit Union Limited. The
directors have decided to con-
tinue offices in both Belgrave and
Wingham one afternoon per
week, more if business demands
it.
The Belgrave office has been in
C. R. Coultes' store on Tuesday
afternoons in the winter and
Tuesday evenings in the Summer.
Since November 1, 1973, the
Wingham office has been open in
Elliott's Insurance office on Wed-
nesday afternoon from -3 to 5:30,
but it would appear as though this
might have to be extended.
George Michie is the treasurer -
manager at both offices.
Shares in a Credit Union carry
life insurance up to $2,000. Loans
from a Credit Union are life in-
sured at no extra cost.
The two companies received
permission to amalgamate from
the Ministry of Consumer and
Commercial Relations in early
March. The joining of the two
Credit Unions will give a' stronger
organization and should prove a
valuable financial asset to the
community.

er drinki
...then here are
some things to consider
Let's say yoo've stayed a little linger
than you expected at a party — long
enougn to have 3 or 4 drinks. All in
good fun. All in good fellowship. And
then you have to drive home.
Section 234, Criminal Code of Canada
— Impaired driving is an offense even if
the driver's blood alcohol is less than
.08%.
Penalty, First offense — Eine of not
more than 5500 or less than 550 or jail
0. for 3 months or both. Second offense
- Jail for not more than 3 months, not
less than 14 days. Subsequent offenses
Jail for not more than t year but not
fess than 3 months.
-'Section 236 —' f1) Breath tests for
blood alcohol are compulsbry. (21 It is
en Offense to refuse to take a breath -
aisle test for blood alcohol when such
a test is demanded by a pesos oiliest.
Penalty — On summary conviction
only. A fine of not more than 51,400
, or less than 560 or jail for not more
thane months, or both.
And there's more
Section 238 — It is an offense to drive
if driver's blood alcohol exceeds .08%.
Penalty — Same as for Section 235. •
It isn't just the appearance before the
judge that's humiliating. The penalties
for impaired driving can range from
those provided in the Criminal Code of
Canada — which include: fine, in'
•piisonment, or both, and loss of
driver's licence — to the possible loss of
insurance, higher annual insurance
rates, loss of job, even social disgrace.
Even if you have never had a parking
ticket you could end up having your
licence suspended for a month ... or 3
months ... or even indefinitely.
Your name will also probably appear in
the newspaper for ell your friends and
business dates to see.
Alcohol, is involved in approximately
half df the more than 5,000 traffic
deaths in Wade each year.
The Social Drinker is one of the leading
erases of automobile accidents. Either
as a guest or a host, you have a respon-
sibility to yourselfAnd others — includ-
ing other people on the road.
HOW TO
PREVENT IMPAIRMENT
Coffee will not work. Nor will a dog
around the block or a cold shower.
They will only make you wide awake,
tired or cold — not sober.
Only TIME will work.
It takes more than an hour to elimin
ate 'each 12 ounces df beer or ounce
and a half of spirits or three ounces of i
non•fortified wine.
If you MUST drive, then adopt the
Canada Safety Council rule of thumb.
HAVE LESS THAN ONE. DRINK
PER HOUR.
