For special effects there are
double flocked patterns such as

double effect comes in striped

.Armor was
once stored
in wardrobe
Purportedly there is historical
evidence to show that the ar-
moire, the French. version of the
wardrobe traditionally used for
the storage of clothing, might
have been used for the storage of
arms or armor during the days of
the knights in shining armor.
The early nineteenth century
marked the beginning of co-
ordinated bedroom furniture, and
with it the use of the armoire in
America, because built-in closets
were unheard of at the time.
Since there always seems to be
a shortage of closet space in the
home, the armoire remains a
popular bedroom piece today.
Beauty coupled with utility have
helped it endure through the cen-
turies.
Many other furnishings used
today have historical signif-
icance, such as the Queen Anne
English influence or early .col-
onial themes.

11.kin,
Like many people making
home improvements, you may be
considering the purchase of a
new freezer. Before you buy that
freezer, it's a smart idea to plan
where you will put it.
In choosing a location for your
freezer, there's more to think
about than just the electrical
outlet.
For example, did you know that
a freezer should not be piked in
direct sunlight, near a radiator or
other heat source or in an un-
ventilated garage?
The reason is simple a
freezer may not operate ef-
ficiently when exposed to high
temperatures. On the other hand,
it should not be housed in an area
that gets too cold either.
Most freezers are designed for
operation within certain tem-
perature limits. Sears Coldspot
freezers, for example, are de-
signed for maximum efficiency
when operated in room temp-
eratures between 65 degrees and
110 degrees F.
• Operating the unit in an area
where the temperature goes be-
low freezing may shorten the life
of the compressor. Temperatures
above 100 degrees F. will cause
the freezer to run more fre-
quently, thus increasing op-
erating costs and decreasing the
life of the freezer.
Because of these temperature
considerations, it's advisable not
to put a freezer in . an un-
ventilated, unheated garage or
back porch where summer temp-
eratures may reach over 110 de-
grees F. and winter temp-
eratures may drop below freez-
ing.
You should select a location
where the floor is level and can
supporta • fully loaded freezer,
which may weigh as much as 1500
pounds.

woman's world
The kitchen is undisputedly the
most lived-in room 'of the home.
Today, . more than elm.; home-
makers expect kitchens to match
beauty with convenience ... re-
gardless of size.
Sb, when a busy woman ex-
ecutive moved to a compact city
studio apartment with a pocket -
sized kitchen, she quickly set in
motion drastic improvement
plans. Concentrating on eliminat-
ing old-fashioned utilities, appli-
ances and =functional acces-
sories, she made economy a top
improvement priority.
One enormous. facelift came
from her selection of adhesive-
backed tiles. Installing them her-
self in the 0' x 10' room cost less
than $25.
The colonial. Wood vinyl floor
tile pattern she selected in a*
cream -colored wood grain tex-
ture opened up the claus-
trophobic work area and created
an illusion of spaciousness.
Small, easily mobile appliance§

style.
For entertaining, a plywood
platform covered in the same tile
was added to extend the kitchen
floor, while providing a hideaway
counter. '
Every► detail, from the floor up,
considers the fastpaced worka-
day schedule of its occupant
without .sacrificing gaiety and

Transformation miracle
Dark and Drear—Faced with the prospect of working in this
cramped. old-fashioned apartment kitchen, the female
resident immediately set economical improvement plans in
motion.
Naturally Nice --,A budget -minded adhesive. -hacked "do-it-
yourself" floor tile makes a cheerful, wipe -cleanable kitchen
floor. The creamy. wood grained floor pattern adds durable
beauty to complement country fresh yellow and green apple•

If you're thinking of putting the
freezer in the basement, be cer-

Also, check ..humidity, If your

happen in the summer), some of
the metal parts on the freezer
