And for CBC announcer Bruce Marsh, it was waiting for a new heart, a heart that would re- place his own heart that had been ravished by countless attacks, a heart that would give him new .life and give him a few more years to share life with family and friends. His chance at a new life never came. He died in California last Tuesday, at the age of 48, still waiting, and still trying to im- press upon people the importance of planning ahead, willing parts of their bodies so others may have a chance to live after their chance is gone. 'Though Bruce's activities have been greatly curtailed in the last year, he has continued to work hard for this cause. He had, in fact, just the evening.Of his. death, filmed a show about transplants. , Perhaps, if he had beep able to slow down he might have lived longer; but broadcasting was in his bloOd and fighting for such a cause was on his mind and he continued. As it has turned out, he has done a great seryice for others, though not for himself. One of the CBC's 'finest an- mouncers, Marsh has been with the corporation for years. Docu- mentaries, commercials, panel shows, all have featured the famous Marsh voice. In recent years, he has hosted several Wednesday evening specials. He 'has been commuting from his where chances were better for a new heart to become available to him on a moment's notice. HoW true the adage, 'living en borrowed time', was for Bruc\d Marsh! The broadcasting in- Oustry has lost a good friend and a fighter of great courage and de- tertnination. Perhaps a cold un- caring world has learned, from his death, that the greatest gift we can give another is the gift of life itself. What better way to leave the world a better place than we found it, than to give a brother new eyes to see or new prgans to lengthen a life that would otherwise be snuffed out much too early. CBC Radio has added to the many other consumers' reports that are coming our way these days, and they include, in their information, some worthwhile warnings that ought to be heeded. For instance, in this day and age when more and more skin seems to be showing (and I'm not refer- ring to streakers! ) we gals know how important it is to have a nice tan. don't know about you, but I don't fancy lying out in the snow; and I can't go to Florida so I'm stuck with one alternative - the sun lamp. ConSumer Affairs warns, "Know what you're doing. Sun lamps emit ultra -violet energy with an intensity that -is much stronger than the real thing. It's wise to protect your eyes with sunglasses' or goggles, and follow directions carefully regarding exposure time and dis- tance between exposed skin and sun lamp. And don't fall asleep; sun lamps can be lethal. Heat lamps emit infra -red rays which A Breath of Spring From MARTENS SPORTS CENTRE Don't wait, order your STRETCH NYLON BALI.
