a small area of the rug with it.
Dip another rough cloth into a
bucket of clear lukewarm water,
to which powdered alum has
been added, and wipe the suds
off the rug with this.
Q. Is there anything StaA 1'
can do about removing small
scratches from the glasstoplt of
furniture?
A These can often be obliter,
ated with a little toothpaste rub-
bed over them, then polished off
with another dry soft cloth.
Q. How can I make a good re-

canvas?
A By using rubber cement to
apply your patching material.
Weight the patch down for
several hours to be sure it will
stay in place.
Q. How can I concoct a
"homemade" ink eradicator?
A. A solutionofonepartchlor,
inated laundry bleach and ten
parts water does a good job of
eradicating ink from paper. -
Keep this in an old iodine bottle
with a rubber stopper, and use
with a glass rod and blotter just
as you do with commercial
eradicato r.
Q. How can I clean wrought
iron natures?
A. By rubbing• with a woolen
cloth moistened with any thin oil,
such as paraffin or kerosene.

TASTY OME LET — Tuna Spinach Frittata, an Italian -inspired dish, can be described as
a tasty pudding -like fried omelet.
COOKING- CORNER
Stretched tuna dishes
help food budget
By SUSAN DELIGHT
The meat substitutes can be
expensive unless they are
- "stretched" with other ingre-
dients. Canned seafood ---
such
such as tuna and salmon —
are among the . substitutes
which lend themselves well to
stretching.
1'he stretched dishes need
not be such ordinary dishes as
creamed tuna or tuna salad.
Some exotic dishes are in-
spired by faraway places.
In Italy, Tuna Spinach
Frittata is a pudding -like
omelet, fried on top of the
range. In some areas
Maritata isadded to further
define omelets which are in-
ventively "married" to other
regional foods. •
One of the•dishes making its
appearance in fine Chinese
restaurants is "Velvet" --
somewhat
somewhat like a little pan-
cake with a texture more lige
satin on the tongue and a
flairor that defies description.

BE CRAFTY
This room
needs a
warm lift
By ALICE MORRELL
This column is iri answer to
a letter from a reader in Chip-
pewa Fall, Wisconsin. She
asks for decorator advice. In
answering her letter, I must
say that decorating long dis-
tance poses a problem, but
will give that advice I think
most helpful to make positive
decisions.
She writes, "My living room
is 12 x 19 feet, has four win-
dows and two arches and a
red brick fireplace in one cor-
ner. The walls are gold, the
drapes avocado, the carpet
dark and light green. The fur-
niture consists of a davenport

(sofa), coffee brown and gold
with matching chair, two
platform rockers, one in gold
and one to be covered.
My questions are, what col-
or to use for the chair cover-
ing? Is the fireplace right in
red brick? If I want to change
the wall color what should I
use?"
- The archway entrances and
bay windows (see drawing)
suggest that this home was
built shortly after World War
I. The existing furniture, rug
and drapes are in muted neu-
tral tones: I therefore believe
this room needs .some lifted
spirits. I suggest a warm..
coral print for the second .
platform rocker.
in r cdccor ati ng the walls 1
suggest using a traditional
wallpaper on the inside fire-
place wall — something in a
stripe with design in coral col-
or. The gold walls may' be a
bit dark. I suggest a soft, pale
lemon to include all woodwork
and the fireplace.
I suggest treating the bay
windows as one; by that I
mean draping the two outside
windows, and using a valance
to complete the inner area.
The 'space between the win-
dows is ideal for small, inter-
esting pictures. This bay win-
dow space is a fitting area for
a collection of green house
plants and 1 would add one or
two on the yellow fireplace.

Dear Dor'othy:.
My husband is very appeal-
ing to other women. I guess
I'm either terribly possessive
or very insecure. I feel that
every woman he's around is
my rival. I try to be more at-
tractive, understanding, at-
tentive and loving than any
woman . he could meet. He
says that only one and
to trust him. He's* always
home on time and we always
go out together and are hap-
py. For eightyears, now, our
love has been stronger than
any hurts we've had. Why,
then, do I feel like I'm coin-
peting with other women? —
T.R.
Dear T.R.:
If he begs for your trust,
and furnishes all ,the proof it
should make your heart feel
bigger than life.
You are very • possessive,
been in the small beginning
loop on capital M. The up-
swing endings keep you beg-
ging for his constant "sweet -
nothings." Then, the small
hooks on the word endings
make you as tenacious as a
glue stick. You won't let loose,
no matter what. When you
reached your legal wifely
status, you forgot to put aside
your childish ways.
Your vivid imagination,
seen in the large lower loops
on y and •g, plays tricks on
you. Let your husband speak
to or look at another woman,
and your, mind's eye can see
just about anything it wants to
see. It can blow an innocent
gesture all out of proportion
until you find yourself living
with an intolerable, but unreal
situation.
. The closely spaced letters
keep you conveniently
"rutted" to your post, as a
wife, while youF, poor mind
scrambles around trying to fit
all the pieces together of
something which isn't even
there.
If your husband's normal
he's going to look. You might
as well get used to it, and let
well enough alone. If you keep
pressing the issue, you •could
push him right out •the door to
plant the H-bomb of infidelity
... right in your own back-
yard.

of them. They add warmth
and interest to a room. Any •
inexpensive fraine will do,
and even magazine pictures
would look great. The secret
is using colorful matting and
non -glare glass. • .
In this instance a grouping
of pictures Would be ideal on
either side of the lone outside
wall window.
I hope my long distance
decorating will be of aid to my
readers; being crafty with our
homes may be our most im-
portant craft.
