Starner got a big one, the
equalizer in the last minute of the
period with - Rick Gowan the
marksman.
Stayner came out on the fly in
the third and <at 1:58 a goal by
Rick Coker gave them a 3 to 2
lead. With determination in every
stride the Ironmen evened the
score with a tip in by Russ Jones
at 4:45.
The Ironmen matched every
Stayner stride and checked well
for the first $en minutes of the
third. But old injuries tapped the
zing out of the Ironmen stamina
and. the Stayner boys took over
and with four goals in the last 10
minutes of the game had a 7 to 3
win. The Iranmen in true sport -

In the ."AAA consolation.
game the boys from Waterloo
took on the North York Rangers
from Toronto. At first it seemed •
that the Rangers would have
little trouble with Waterloo but
foolish penalties cost them a win.
• At one point in the game there
were four players from each
team- serving time for infrac-
tions. Waterloo managed to tie
the game and send it into over-
time for a shots -on -goal win. Mrs.
J. K. McGregor presented the
trophy on behalf of the tourna-
ment,committee:
In the "AAA" championship
game, play was almost identical
to that of the consolation round
with Richmond Hill picking up a
shots -on -goal win over a decid-
edly stronger Windsor club. Just
plain hard work paid off for the
Richmond Hill boys who outshot
Windsor by one to take the title of
"AAA"- champions. Local 11/MPP

In a penalty filled game in
Stayner :on Monday night the
Wingham Ion .men went down to
defeat 8 to .1 as Stayner won the
thir"d straight game in the best of
seven series.
The first , period saw the
Stayner Siskins for the third
game in
a row pick up a goal in
the first minute of play and in this
game it came at the 52 second
mark with that solid defenceman,
No. 4, Angus " York' getting an
unassisted goal. The Ironmen
poured on, the coal and tied it up
with Phil Paquette flashing the
red light at 13:19 with assist going
to linemate Barry MacDonald.
The tie Was short-lived as it took
Starner only 36 seconds to
rebound • into the lead on Rick
Coker's goal. At the end of the
first the score read 2 to 1 for
Stayner but the Irbnmen . were
still very much in the game.
After a, first period of near
penalty free hockey, the second
period saw a complete reverse in
form ' with a steadystream of
traffic to the penalty. box. As the
pre-gamefreezing of an Ironmen
wrist, hip or limb began to wear
off; old injuries weakened the
Ironmen attack and Stayner with
goals by Rick Gowan, Greg Conn
and Brian Dickey in that rough
second period gave Stayner a
commanding 5 to 1 lead.
When action . resumed in the
third the penalty box was . con-
tinually loaded to opacity and
Stayner responded to the urging
of their hometown fans and with
three unanswered goals had
downed the Ironmen 8 td 1 to -take
a comm n •
a ding three game lead
in the best of seven series.
WHISTLE STOPS ... Penalties
galore in this encounter, a total .of
102 minutes in penalties, Stayner
picking •up 61 minutes to
Wingham's 41... Strong Stayner
penalty killing played a big part
in their win . , Refereeing left a
little to be . .desired.. Good
refereeing can keep the boys
playing hockey but poor
refereeing like witnessed in this
game turns the ice oval into a
wrestling ring with more action
in • that little penalty box than on
the ice . Did you notice even
Ironmen penalty box official
Terry Merkley had to straighten
