Resolutions is theme ,\
of Institute meeting
Tne regular meeting of the
Hingham branch of the Women's .
Institute was held on Thursday in
the council chambers at 2:30 p.m.
The first vice president, Mrs. •
William Taylor, welcomed the
members and visitors.
The minutes of the last meeting
were read by the secretary, Mrs.
Jacklin and correspondence in-
t. eluded

i..eluded an;announcement ' of the •
executive' meeting in' Auburn on
April 3 at 1:30; an outline of
activities at the Erland Lee
Home for the . summer; and a
letter from the president of
FWIO, Mrs. Noblitt. •
The euchre parties for March
22 and ' 29 were discussed d it
was decided to inquire about the.
craft short courses. The roll call,
"What fancily traditions do your
family continue to observe?",
was well answered. , '
The program, with . the theme
"Resolutions", was in charge of
Mrs. Jacklin. She explained that
Resolutions was the first con-
venership formed under the,,
Federated Woranen';s'Institutes.. ,;,,
discussion'then followed and Mrs.
Jacklin spoke on the motto,
"Resolve to Live Up to the Mary
Stewart Collect'.
Mrs`. Sewers and Reuben.

violin selections and the hostess
scuss an served lunch. -
that after April 1the Ministry of
the Environment will be.taking
over inspection of septic tanks
and weeping tile beds. He said the
cost for such inspection will be
$125.
Mrs. Helen Jermyn of Exeter
asked Dr. Mills what such inspec-
tions cost at the present time. Dr.
Mills estimated $35 at the most.
"How strongly did we oppose
this move?"asked Jack Mc-
Cutcheon of Brussels. Dr. Mills
said the -ministry still has not
made the announcement official
although Huron's opposition has
been registered through his of-
fice. "Public Health pedple are
concerned about it," said the
doctor. - "They are taking our
budgets, our jobs."
He also said the ministry has no
field staff; as yet and for the pres-
ent time, the health units have
been asked to carry on. "It has all
been very quiet," said Dr. Mills.
"Even our local members of par-
liament didn't know."
Dr. Mills said the rumors are
that the revenue from this branch
of the Ministry of the .Environ-
ment will be $2,000;000 plus".
Only 50 inspectors are expected
to be hired across the province,
Dr. Mills also explained. "It will
be the rural municipalities who
will suffer.
Decision was reached to send a
strongly -worded protest to the o
government on this matter. •
The health budget is up $64,800' i
to $400,718. It is estimated the
province will put in $165,400; e
home care, $14,800; VQN $600; t
'and county ratepayers, $219,918.

A point by point
prirneron howtolos
vurdrivr's licence.
i
It's actually quite simple. .
All you do' is accumulate fifteen
demerit'point - , d lose your
licence for thi ' days. Do it again .
and lose your cence for six
months.
In this province, it definitely,pays
a driver to score a big fat zero.
Ontario's demerit point system is
designed to convince the poor
driver to drive properly. Drivers
who do not improve are then
taken from the road because
they're a menace to pedestrians
and to other drivers.
But the system is not at all unjust.
It's aimed at telling the driver
where he's gone wrong and
givingim plenty of time to cor-
rect his aults.
For instance. When you've
accumulated six poinits, you'll be
notified and urged to improve
your driving.
When you've got nine, you'll prob-
ably be asked to attend a private
interview and re -do your driving
test.
At fifteen points, you'll lose your
licence for thirty days and drop
back to seven points. Get fifteen,
again and you won't drive for
six months,
However, your record won't be
5
indelibly marked. If you drive for
two years without a traffic con
viction your points are erased and
your slate is clean.
How Demerit Points Accuftulate:
7 points Failing to remain at scene of an accident
(Highway Traffic Act).
6 points Careless dnvtng Exceeding speed limit
Racing by 30 m p h or more. '
5 points Dnver of bus failing to stop at unprotected
railwaycrossings. "
