needed for a : victory in Arthur.
Fan excitement was ,certainly at
its peak in the third period as the
Wingham fans urged on the
Ironmen with their "Go Wing -
ham Go" and Arthur fans
countered with "Go Arthur Go".
In that small arena the chants
seemed to echo in magnified
excitement...Arthur seemed to
have the Ironmen completely
baffled for two periods and it was
only in the third period that the
Ironmen started to skate and
back check as if they wanted
victory, and victory they got.
What an exciting finish...Hard-
working Murray Black with the
tying goal was the big hero in this
one. He was one of the few
Ironmen who went all-out from
opening whistle to final buz-
zer...Russ'Jones played his best
game of the season, skating and
hitting with authority...This was
the Ironmen's sixth straight
playoff win and they certainly
have the community talking

minute of exciting ' Junior "D"

small ice surface has been a pro-
blem all year long and coming
when and how it did certainly
tied it up. Then for the next ten
minutes it was chippy hockey
with both teams taking shots at
each other with an elbow or high
stick. At 11:27 the expected
arrived and it was fighting
fireworks. The initial round
pitted together Doug Leitch and
Arthur's Randy Freeland but as
Cliff Hetherington • stood in-
nocently watching he was rushed
by Arthur's Lee Rodgers who
thought it was time to retaliate
for that nose -crushing check
received in the first game of the
series. Both players hit the ice in
a clinch with Cliff on top with his
right arm in perpetual motion,
landing a series of •rapid punches
with the sting and motion of a
jack -hammer. With much diffi-
culty the combatants were
separated by the referees and
evicted from further play with
game misconducts.
With the teams .playing four -
aside Doug Bell scored at 12:28
and with fast breaking Wayne
Mooney's goal at 17:07, Arthur
with a 3 to,1 lead seemed to have
the game under control.
After that second period things
must have been hot in the Iron -
men's dressing room for they
came out on the fly and with
Murray McKague's quick goal at
1:19 were right back in the game.
However, less than a minute
later Bryan Hills shot Arthur into
a to 2 lead.
Hingham kept • skating and
Gerry Wheeler's unassisted goal
at 4:54 put the Ironmen back in
the game. This goal added fuel to
the Ironmen attack and time and
time again they blitzed the Ar-
thur end but Arthur's goalie was
just sensational and with a quick
hand and a little lu k continued to
terminate every it onmen attack
in frustration.
With just less than a minute left
Coach George Skinn yanked" his
goalie in favor of of an extra
attacker and tension mounted.
Twice with the net empty Arthur
forced the Ironmen into the
centre zone. .
At this point in the game
everyone in the arena was on.
their feet—Ironmen fans hoping
for the equalizer and Arthur fans
hoping for the ' victory .
Then at 19:39 ` it happened!
Doug Leitch attempted to hold
the puck in the Arthur corner for
a face-off but was forced from the
puck and it scooted to Gerry
Wheeler almost behind the net
and Gerry swooped it to Murray
Black and it was a tie game. With
only 21 seconds the Ironmen had
tied it up and the Ironmen fans
went wild.
With the score tied 4 all the

against Gorrie. The first game
was played on Monday night at
Belgrave with a score of 5-3 for
Belgrave. Friday night they
travelled to Gorrie where
Belgrave defeated Gorrie 5-2 to
end that series.
These two games really showed
what team effort was all about.
Special credit goes to Belgrave's
goalie, Ronnie McDowell who
played well in both games.
Belgrave PeeWees now ad-
vance to the finals. This series is

To start the meeting we had the
breaking of the flag and badges
were given out. After inspection
we broke off to collect dues. Then
we went to our corners to work on
our citizen badges.
Artificial respiration was then
instructed . by some of the boys.
After the announcements, we
closed the meeting with the low-
ering of the flag and the Lord's
Prayer was recited.
