The Wingham Advance-Times, 1974-02-21, Page 22t'r I.. February 21, 1974— do 974 do you hide a headboard?. BARBARA HARTUNG Q. Because of lack of other well space, I must have my .tang -sized bed against the winddow wall.;. The problem is that the window is 100 inches wide and 42 inches high. The headboard is 12 inches higher than the window sill.. This looks very bad when drapes are open to allow the light in. Can you suggest an appropri ate treatment for this win- dow? -,- A. A.K.' • A. Here are two ideas which might help you. The first is to use two tiers of cafe curtains, leaving the lower tier closed as a backdrop. You ,Gould use Da print fabric for the curtains and the bedspread and tie the two together for .a unified look. Mother possibility is to — create a 'lambrequin forthe window. This merely means a wooden frame which you can cut Out of plywood and install • inyour window or against it. (depending on the kind of win- dow you have). You could de- sign the lambrequin so that it comes up just slightly higher r,e than your headboard. You could make the cutout straight or design it with a curve or two. Then . you can hang fabric behind the lam-. • requif. Check interior de- sign books and periodicals for this. style of window .disguise. It can be extremely eye • catching. . Q. I would like some sug- gestions for my living -dining area which" is approximately ,21 by. '13 feet. My Fug, walls and curtains are all in beige. I have twin upholstered chairs in a medium brown mocha and my furniture is in &pecan finish. How can I introduce some interest and color into this room? `I need to have -my eight -foot davenport covered and also the seats of my four dining -chairs. My.' favorite colors are beige°, browns, green and deep; dark red or coral. -*- M.E.W. A. In planning for your change in upholstery, think not only in terms of color but in texture, too, for that can lend lots of interest. Plan a contrast of textures --- some heavily woven ones, some finely woven ones --- some soft and some smooth feeling ma- terials. Would you like a col- roful print or stripe or plaid in the room? 4If so, why not search for one with your fa- vorite colors. It might have all your favorites or only some of them. Just be sure it has some brown and beige, so it ties in well with your background and your.existing chairs. This print would be nice *for the sofa. Then I'd suggest you take another color out of the sofa fabric and repeat that in a plain fabric on the chair seats. Use that chair seat col- or as an accent throughout the room. If it might be a dark red or coral or green, you might like it on a mirror frame, too, or antiquing an old piece of wood- furniture such as a chest, armoire, table or side- board. Also, picture frames, flowers and pillows in this col- or could add more sparks of color. VISIT US For an original Oil Painting or.a Beautiful.
