* The death occurred in Scar-
borough General *Hospital. on
Thursday, February 14, of Mrs.
Charles Bates of 5 Joanith Drive,
Toronto. She was in her 54th year.
Born in Toronto on October 226,
1920, Mrs. Bates was the,former
Muriel Williams, a daughter of
Mrs. Emily Williams of 'Wingham
and the late George Williams.
She attended Wingham High
School and graduated from East
General Hospital, Toronto, as a
registered nurse. •
Surviving, besides her mother
and her husband, are two daugh-
ters, Mrs. J. (Patricia)
Luukkonen of Uxbridge and
Cathryn Bates at , home. Also
surviving are two grandchildren
and one brother, Allan Williams
Of Wingham.
The late Mrs. Bates rested at
the McDougall and Brown
`uneral• Home, Danforth Ave.,
-Toronto, where funeral service
was conducted Saturday at 11

for Harold Kaake
Funeral service was held on
February 15 at the Moir Funeral
Horne, Gorrie, for William,
Harold Kaake of Wroxeter who
passed away Wednesday, Feb-
ruary 13, at his residence. Rev.
Percy Dodd was in charge of the
service.
Born in Wroxeter on August 10,-
'1914, Mr. Kaake was a son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. William Kaake.
He Was an employee •of Huron
County for the past 24 years.
Besides his wife, the former
Johanna Gibson whom he mar-
ried April 10, 1971, he is survived
by several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Wes
Heimpel, Harvey Bradshaw, Wil-
ilatn Wright, Tom Newton, Rob -
?Ort Brown and Murray Under-
WOod.

Left to mourn her passing, be-

She is also survived by two
brothers; Wellesley of Gorrie and
Jim of New York. She was .pre-
deceased by one brother, John.
The late Mrs. Montgomery
rested at the Moir funeral home,
Gorrie, where service was con-
ducted Thursday at 2 p.m. by
Rev. Harold Dobson of Grand
Bend United Church of which de-
ceased was a member. He was
assisted by Rev. Anne Graham of
London.
Temporay entombment took
place in Gorrie Cemetery Chapel
with spring burial in ' Gorrie
Cemetery.

Aunt buried
at Uxbridge
Mrs. Reuben -J. Austin, aunt of
Mrs. I. W. Merrick, Wingham,
died Tuesday, February 5 at the
Cottage Hospital, Uxbridge, in
her 92nd year.
The former Martha Nicholls,
daughter of the late Sara Jean
Wren and John Nicholls, she was
born in 1882 in Reach Township.
She attended Bethesda School
and Uxbridge High School, and
trained for a Registered Nurse in
fnpworth Hospital, South Bend,
diana. Some years later she re-
turned to Uxbridge and practised
her profession in her home area,
giving loving, efficient care to
many who still remember her
never failing duty.
In 1939 she married Mr. Austin
and went to Kingston to live
where she was a member of
Queen Street United Church and
the UCW. Mrs. Austin enjoyed
poetry.
She was predeceased by her
husband in ,1951, and her three
Sisters, Annie Hodgson, Jessie
Munro, Ruby Remion and one
brother, Christopher Nicholls.
Left to mourn are two -step
daughters, Mrs. Gwendolyn
Lindsay of Kingston and Mrs.
Vera Wigstan .of North Bay;
three nieces, Lorena Taylor,
Wilda Clark and Mrs. Merrick of
Wingham; and one nephew,
Keith Hoi.

charge. interment was in the
family plot in Uxbridge Ceme-
