She should examine her breasts once a month about a week after a menstrual period and report any changes or lumps. 5. She should be 'tested for and irnamunized against Ger- man measles, before she takes a chance on pregnancy. 6. She should ask her doctor about the dangers of taxoplas- mosis, if she is going to be pregnant .and live with cats. Q. Will my birth control pills keep me from hot flashes now that I am 40? A. Your birth control pills should help control your hot flashes at age 40, if they have enough of an estrogenic effect and your hot flashes are not due to something else. If they do not control your hot flashes, and your physical ex- amination -is normal, they may not be providing enough estrogen. (I am assuming you are worried about the possi- bility of pregnancy and are still haying menstrual peri- ods. Extra estrogen can be prescribed along with the birth control pills to minimize the hot flashes while contra- ception is necessary for your peace of mind. JOHN JACKSON Certified Master Graphoanalyst Dear Dorothy: I'm turning into a perfec- tionist housekeeper in my middle age. It's getting to be such an obsession with me that I drive myself and my husband crazy. I spent all day yesterday (Sunday) cleaning, and, today, every time 1 turn around I see more dirt, and keep picking up crumbs and lint. Every night I fall into bed completely exhausted only to wake up in the night thinking about some chore I have to do. I feel close to a breakdown. M.K. Dear M.K.: Crumbs and lint are hardly worth the price you're paying. It's obvious in the lack of spacing between words that you are bound by the same strict set of behavior stand- - ards, which guided you in growing up, to guide your life now. The pressure of your small writing keeps you tense and concerned as you focus in on this "hand-me-down" kind of living. Being a perfectionist has you in a trap. The closely dotted i's, seen consistently throughout, your writing, keep you involved and worried about little things, so you neves' get done. You close yourself in, so you never get out. You are so con- cerned about the bits and pieces of lint and crumbs that you never, really, see your house in its entirety. And, in- cidentally, nobody suffers but you. Deviating from your strict schedule scares you, and you're afraid of what other people will say, if you do, seen in the high part of the m. Your Liner self is being strained. It's had all the pres- sure it can take, and wants to get away from it all, seer) in the long narrow loops. So, you're frustrated and you m don't know what to do. Unless you broaden your scope and put the dust, crumbs and the lint into their proper .place of importance, you'll just con- tinue to wiggle around in your hofre-made slot. Aiming for perfection has a way of bringing to the surface our many imperfections. 'So, just try being an "ordi- nary". ordi-nary'. person. D.J. DECOR w to _. brighten bed room ay >LATUNG Q.
