Many hockey teams can boast
that theyfiave won, three of their
'last foto' games but "how many
can say they did it in two days?
The Wingham Midgets did just
that when they' travelled 'to
Southampton Saturday to play in
the.
A, B.,'Rourke Midget Hockey
Tournament and came. back with •
the consolation trophy. Then on
Sunday theybiravelled to Clinton
and downed that team in the 'sec-
and game of the OMJIA playoffs.
Wingham 5, Durham 6
In their most closely fought
contest of the tournament Dur-
ham dropped 'Wingham by a 0-5
score, but they had, to go into
overtime to do it. The loss was a.
hard one for Wingham because.
they had worked hard for a vic-
tory and were winning 5-3 v1ith'
only two minutes remaining in..
regulation . time, However, the
Durham boys pressedand after
pulling their goalie managed to
tie it upand"then go on to win in
overtime.
The top pointman in this game
was Jim McGee with one goal
and two assists followed by John
Henderson and Dennis Thompson
with one goal and one assist each.
Wingham's other goals were
scored by Rick Jacklin from Don
Carter and Kevin . Bain from
Morris Ault.
Wingham 7, Tiverton
In. the second . game' of the
Jour nameat Wingham, came
.storming out m the first period,
intent an avenging their loss.
In fact, Wingham's big line of.
Henderson, Thompson and Mc-
Gee shot them into a 1.0 lead after
only -'32 seconds of play. McGee
scored that marker. Two minutes'
later "Dave, unbar made it 2-0
with help kern ' Morris Hull and
Kevin Bain and with seven min-
utes remaining in the period
speedy John Henderson . put
Wingham three points up on a
goalthat displayed some fine
skating and stick handling.
Tiverton came `back and scored
their first goal at 14:13 With Dave
Edwardsfinding the net. The last
goal of the period showed ever*
one that big John Vath of Wing-
hamscore well
a can s o e as as hand a
stiff body check Vath sunk a•,
hard shot from the point.
In the second period Don Bur-
ley of Wingham dumped in a re-
bound,off the Tiverton goalie's
pad to Make the Score 5-1. The
last goal of the period came from
the stick of Kevin Bain assisted
by Dave Dunbar.
In the third frame Tiverton.
showed Wingham they were not
about to give up as they potted
two goals to Wingham's one.
Wingham's final goal was scored
by Dave Dunbar with assists to
Bain and Hull.
Wingham 7, *Nalkerton 3
Wingham didn't have as easy a
Mime winning, this one as the score
might indicate but in the end
Wingham managed to beat
Walkerton and pick up the con==
solation trophy.
At the end of the first period the
score stood at Wingham 2, Walk-
erton 1, but in the second the ,
scoring was. turned around when
Allen Potts bagged two goals for
Walkerton and Wingham drew a
goal from Dennis Thompson, ash
sisted by Bernie Haines. I.
In the t'
lost the game for two reasons.
Firstly, Wingham . stormed the:.
Walkerton goal to pick up four
goals and secondly, the Wingham
defenders, tied by Don Carter,
played superb hockey withstand-
ing all of Walkerton's rushes.
On Sunday Coach Fraser
Strong and Manager Danny,
Montgomery were worried that
their players might have been too
aired to give a 100 per cent effort
in their game against Clinton. To

rther complicate matters, U
Wingham lost this game against
f,9inton they would be out of the
quarter finals.
As play
'began it appeared
d that
Jboys may been tired and
Clinton jumped into a 1.0 lead at
8'*09. The Bain -Cook- Hull line,
however, didn't slow down and at
the 16:00 mark Bain !scored.
In the second perk d play see-
sawed from end to end with one
team scoring and then the other.
But with about five minutes to go
.0 in the period Wingham seemed:to
get their second wind and at the
end of the period Wingham ,had
'the lead 4-3.
In the third period ' of play
Wingham let -up and , Clinton
capitali,ed with two goals. For
the next ten minutes things didn't
look good for Wingham, but at the
:halfway point in the period Don.
Burley rifled a perfect shot from
centre ice into the lower left cor-
ner. The goal seemed to .perk
Wingham up and Pam Sldpn, Jim
McGee and. Dave Dunbar added
one each to give Wingham an 8-6

feet as Dave Hodgins blasted .a

net for his firstgoal of the season,
giving the Ironmen a command-
ing 7 to 2 lead after 2 periods.

hockey in this one as the Ironmen
just weren't able to get a

good chances ... The line of Phil

seemed to be the only trio which
could get any scoring punch into

Ironmen were right back in the
game. At 16:13, Arthur's' Dave
Draper picked up his second goal
of the Reriod and it was a big one
as it gave Arthur a 4 to 3 lead
after 40.minutes of:close checking
hockey.
The third period saw good
exciting hockey with Arthur try-
ing to protect a one goal lead and
the Ironmen attempting to tie it
up. Arthur picked up the only
