Ontario, Quebec to promote
•historic Heritage Highways
Ontario and Quebec, with
federal assistance, will this year
spend $250,000 to put storied Heri-
tage Highways squarely on the
holiday map.
Heritage Highways are the rib-
bons of pavement which follow
the canoe routes and foot paths of
explorers, fur traders, pioneers,
and homesteaders through the
two provinces from Niagara
Falls to the small community of
Perce on Quebec's Gaspe Penin-
sula.
Airing- of five minute TV vig-
nettes already has begun in a
program that includes eight
French • and seven English
language stations with a six -film
series that captures many of the
vistor highlights° along the his-
toric route.
Additionally, ,full-color ad-
vertisements are to appear in
national magazine supplements
carried by 18 English and eight
French language dailies.
And, to round out the Co-opera-
tive effort, a new 65 -page all
-
color booklet has just been pub- CANCER CANVASS
lished in both French and En- GORRIE — The Women's
glish, which outlines not only fho Institute report a very successful

Detroit -Windsor gateway.
While the sister provinces have
been partners in tourism for
years, this is the most vigorous
program they've ever launched
as a team. And while its prime
purpose is to stimulate more
travel between Quebec and On-
tario, it is also expected to entice
thousands of U.S. vacationers to
visit this oldest segment of set-
tled Canada.
As part of the campaign, four
Quebec travel writers will tour
the Ontario stretch of the route
while a similar number from On-
tario will travel it to its Quebec
terminal.
The publication Heritage High-
ways will be available at all On-
tario and Quebec border cross-
ings from the U.S. For a free
