ALEX. WALTON/
"The time has come, the Walrus
said",
"To think of\many things . "
And with the advent of good
weather last weekend, quite a
few people turned their thoughts
to a round of golf. While the club
has been open since April 28, not
too many duffers were able to
take advantage of the opening
due to the rain and cold. How-
ever, we hope that the weather-
man will co-operate for the next
six months or so.
Several changes in this year's
executive for the Wingham G & C.
President for the year is Dr. Wil-
kins, with John Cruickshank act-
ing as his VP and club captain.
Rick Tysick ' (of Toronto Do-
minion fame) has taken over as'
treasurer, while Murray Rae is
still acting as secretary. The
heavy load of membership chair-
man has fallen on the shoulders
of • Brian Elmslie, while yours
trulyhas been tagged for the PR
position.
A new position has been
created this year, that of super-
visor. Frank Madill, now retired
from the bastion behind the sta-
tion has kindly volunteered to fill'
this post. Frank will be looking
after quite a few things, including
supervision of the clubhouse and
the greens. Just wonder, though,
if Frank isn't using the position
as a means of getting in a few
practise rounds for his weekly
jousts with the jovial doctor.
Unfortunately, inflation has
struck at the club this year with
rising costs bringing about a need
for some fee adjustments. Men's
memberships for this year will
cost $67, a $10 increase over last
year. A husband and wife mem-
bership has also increased by $10
to $87. The ladies (bless 'etn) will
still pay $35, while out of town
membership for men stays at $47.
Other memberships, such as de-
pendent student membership and
out-of-town husband and wife
membership remains the same.
Of course, the stipulation
regarding owning a chub share
cording any outstanding scores,
but.we hope to keep.you posted on

five Years.
Unfortunately, I haven't had a
chance to limber up the warclubs
as yet . . although I've been
practising on some divots with a
round mouth shovel, so I Should
be ready for a crack at the fair-
ways sometime this week.
What we've`s6n of the course
promises to be a good year .
Lloyd Chapman and his assistant
have the greens in excellent
shape, and the fairways are look-
ing good.
Understand that the first men's
night is to be held Wednesday .. .
.. looking forward to some real
stiff competition in the weekly
tournaments this year. Men's
night is really a geodevent. Gives
the guys a chance to play a little
golf, share a glass of freshie or
two, and lie about their scores.
And remember ladies, if they're
playing in the men's night
tournament, they're not hanging
around the street corners.
The first social activity was
held on the 28th, with the opening
night dinner -dance. The Jamie-
; sons (John and Sandra) did a fine
job organizing the first night.
Understand the ladies will be
looking after the social events
this year, which should provide
some excellent fun nights.
Haven't been informed of all the
details of the next activity, but
according to Shirley Kaufman,
everybody had better be
"brave".
The executive, voted to
eliminate the social Membership
fee entirely.
.Anyone who wishes to enjoy, the
many social activities at theclub
can do so by siMply buying a
share in the club, either by
purchasing one outright, or pay-
ing 10 bucks a year for five years.
This also means that anyone who
presently holds a share is auto-
matically a social member,
whether they golf or not.
