SPRING FASHION NOTE—
Jewellry for dogs ' in the form of
the municipal tags will cost more
this year, ' but there is no
guarantee this adornment will do
anything more for the canine
population,
The cost of loving a dog . has
doubled and in addition,, the town
is prepared to provide a special
service to make sure the animals
are cared for:
At Monday night's council
meeting a by-law was passed to
authorize the hiring of a dog
catcher and to increase the cost
of dog tags. As of this week, a tag
for a male dog or spayedfemale
will cost $4, additional animals in
the same category will be $6
each.
Some years ago a playwright •
produced a play "The Woman
Pays" and this will apply now in
regard to female dogs. Those,
owning them will be required to
pay $10 for the tag and 915 for
each additional animal.
SalePeriod
There is, however, a little sil-
ver lining in this cloud of woe for
dog lovers. Council agreed to let
the old tariffs stand until the end
of April and the hope was ex-
pressed that all tags would be
procured during the "sale"

period. Come the first of May and
the new scale of prices is LAW.
The dog catcher, who comes
from the Goderich area, wilt start
his duties almost immediately.
For the first couple of weeks he `'°'
will not collect loose dogs but will
try to contact owners and advise
them of the by-law.
Dogs running at large which
' are apprehended after this period
of grace will lead to the issuing of
a summons calling for a fine of
not less than $4 and not more than
910 for the first offence.
The by-law stresses that all
Clogs away from their owner's
property must be controlled on a
leash, alsoany dog which bites a
human must be confined in quar-
antine until it is established there
is no evidence of rabies.
It's spring—and the dog days
are with us.
