:director of "Sleuth" edging out
the man behind "Sounder".
For best actor, the nominees
are Marlon Brando in "Godfath-

Laurence Olivier who ,both star-
red in "Sleuth"; Peter O'Toole
for "The Ruling Class" and Paul

Best actress nominees are Liza
Minelli for "Cabaret",\ Cicely
Tysonfor "Sounder", Diana Ross
for "Lady Sings the Blues" (she'
is the former lead singer of the
Supremes and made her acting
debut portraying the famous
blues singer, Billie Holiday),
Maggie Smith for "Travels with
my Aunt" and Liv Ullman for
"The Emigrants". Tyson and
Ross are both black` actresses
and new to the game and Tyson
has a good chance of winning.
Smith is a previouswinner, for
"The Prime of Jean Brodie";
Minelli is a previous nominee for
"Sterile Cuckoo". Speaking of
Minelli, isn't her new recording,
"The Singer", something else? Is
it not her late, mother, Judy Gar-

And can't you just see Judy sing-

Folksinger Judy Collins will
join Mike Douglas to cohost the
Mike Douglas Show this Thurs-
day, the 22nd, at 12:30 noon on
Channel 13. Miss Collins, you will
remember, is one of our finest
folk artists; she not only sings a
good folk song, she also writes
much of her own material. Born
and raised in Denver, Colorado,
she began her career in classical
music and on the piano but her in-
terest in civil rights and other
causes, led her to admire the folk
artists of her day, Woody Guth-
rie, Pete Seeger, and the music of
her ' ancestors in English and
Scottish ballads.
