iss Ballagh speaks
on .being thankful
WHITECHURCH - — Members
of Calvin -Brick and Whitechurch
UCW groups were guests when
Chalmers . Women's Missionary .
Society held its Thankoffering
meeting Wednesday afternoon of
last week. Mrs. William Rintoul,
president, welcomed the guests
and \opened the meeting with a,
poem; "Praise Thee".
. Mrs. Victor Emerson offered
prayer and Mrs. Victor Wybenga
read scripture and gave the
meditation, expressing thanks
for work and joy and daily bread.
Mrs. Dawson praig read the
minutes and correspondence.
Mrs. Gordon McBurney of Cal-
vin -Brick read "Just for Today"
and "Deriderata".
Mrs. Johnson Conn introduced
Miss Lavonne Ballagh of
Wingham, the guest speaker.
Miss Ballagh works at' the Ad-
vance -Times and is a receptionist
at Wingham and District Hospi-
tal.
Miss Ballagh said Thanksgiv-
ing is one day set aside out of 365
days, to give thanks to God. We
ask God for courage, help and
strength. How true of us. We take
God for granted, yet w,e teach the
baby to say "ta-ta". We call our-
selves Christians but how many
times in a month do we thank
God? she asked. We keep asking
for more and more and are never
satisfied. Some people don't want •
help from • God. They would
rather go their own way, but no
one can Jive to himself. No act of
kindness is so small that it does
not deserve thank you. Miss Bal-
lagh said it is easy tobe thankful
when all goes ,well but we must
have wisdom and maturity to
accept any situation and be
thankful.
Mrs. Wallace Conn thanked the
speaker and presented her with a
gift. Mrs. Garnet Farrier played'
a ,piano solo and Mrs. Bill Rintoul
read a poem.
The offering was received by
Mrs. Gordon Rintoul and Mrs.
William Purdon and dedicated by
Mrs. Robert' Ross. Mrs. Frank
Coulter gave the closing prayer.
