CANDIDATES INA ED CROSS LEADERS' COURSE. , Kings edge Corunna 2-• 1 It was a game filled with ex- citement in every inning as the Kings took the first game of the OBA playdowns at the local dia- mond last Saturday evening. In a pitchers' battle from the first inning to the last. Ed Daer on the mound chalked up the victory. Wingham picked up their two runs in the bottom of the fifth with Ken. Saxton and Barry Fry- fogle crossing the plate. Corunna fought back and got .one in the top. of the seventh. The suspense was prolonged as the rains came to delay the game. However, when play resumed the Kings played . heads -up ball to keep the Corunna team off the score sheet and walk off with the victory 2 to 1. Tagging ,the Bags—This loss rested heavily on the shoulders of the Corunna team as it was their first loss of the season, coming aftersome20 plus straight vic- tories. . Congratulations to Ed Daer on the mound for the Kings who pitched a whale of a game, silencing 'the big bats of the Corunna nine with repeated regu- larity. ' Wayne Coultes made a big. catch right back in the creamery corner which got the Kings out of a tight spot. Ken Saxton had the big hit. of the game, really a home run but ruled by the umpire as a double when the Corunna left fielder let th •e ball roll under a white Dodge with green top in left field. When it became evident that something had to be done with her, they had two choices, take her a zoo and see her put be- hind bars or take her back to the jungle and free her and perhaps; never see her again. • Loving Elsa as they did, they chose the latter and as you have no doulit guessed by now, it was Joy's book "Born .Free" that be - carne first a bestseller then a top movie and you may hare wept with the Adamsons on those first days when they had to leave the young lioness to fend for herself in the wilderness. • A movie is a , three or four- month commitment for an actor and actress. They may leave a role different than when they started; they may even leave a picture with a different spouse than when they ,started. But for Bill Travers and Virginia Mc- Kenna, the movie "Born Free" was a way of life they could not forget. After playing the parts ' of George and Joy Adamson, the Travers, husband and wife hemselves, went back to 'a rela- ively quiet life in Surrey, Eng - and. But they could not forget the Adamsons who had given up o much of life's so-called luxur- es and gone back to a primitive. xistence. They could not forget he bond that tied man to animal; nd most of all they could not for - et seven lions, the seven lions ho worked with then', • in "Born ree". With Virginia recovering from e birth of their -fourth child and nable to travel with him, avers went back, alone, and we aw the results of his trip, as it appened, in a CTV special last eek on TV 13. "The Lions Are ree" was a rare privilege and a autiful story of love _between iends. Two years after he had made e movie, Travers was roaming e same familiar countryside in e heart of Africa. And he began be afraid. Would the lions be ild now? Would they attack m? Or would they after a few ys remember him? He needn't ve worried. In a scene as uching as any love scene, lions d man were reunited and after o years, the trust, the 'devotion, e affection was still there, only ice as strong as before. And ring the course of the hour-long pecial we saw another genera - n born, beautiful lively little bs who would grow up learning trust man, not fear him ; and o would live free as they were eant to live.
