received word of the death of
Mrs. Alice J. MacLean on April
25 in Woodburn, Ore., in her 95th
year. Mrs. MacLean was the
former Alice MacLaughlin,
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas 1VIacLaughlin of Gorrie.
She was born in Gorrie on Aug. 6,
1877. Surviving is her sister Mar-
garet of Woodburn, Ore. Burial
was in Mountain View Cemetery,
Centralia, Wash.

Funeral service was held Tues-
day, May 23, at ,the S. J. Walker
Funeral Home on Patrick Street
for Alexander Leaver, formerly
of 280 Edward Street. Rev. Barry
Passmore conducted the service
at 2 p.m. and interment followed
in the Winghakn Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jack Coultes
of °Oakville, Williston Pocock of
Woodstock, Jim Coultes, Albert
Coultes, Norman Coultes, and
John Gaunt, all of this area.
Floral tributes were carried to
the graveside by Wilfred Walker
of Belgrave, Ernest °W,alker,
Charles Shiell and Gershom
Johnston, all of Wingham.
Mr. Leaver ,passed away
syddenly at Brookhaven Nursing
Home, Wingham, on Saturday,
May 20, following a lengthy ill-
ness•. He was in his 72nd year.
Born in East Wawanosh Town-
ship, he was a son of the late
Thomas Leaver and Margaret
,Rintoul. He attended SS No. 9 in
East Wawanosh and farmed all
his life on the 12th concession .of
East Wawanosh. He retired tq
Wingham in 1964.
While residing on the farm he
was a member of Calvin -Brick
United Church where he served
as elder and Sunday School
superintendent for several years.
At the time of his death he was a
member of the Wingham United
Church. Mr. Leaver always took
an active part in community
affairs and showed great pride in
his home.
In January of 1926 he married
the former Lavina King and she
predeceased him in April of 1969.
He is survived by two daughters,
Mrs. Howard (Jean) Walker of
RR 3, Wingham, and Mrs. David
(Evelyn) Hackett of RR 3, Luck -
now; one sister Mrs. George
(Lyla) Pocock of Lambeth and
six grandchildren. He was'prede-
ceased by one dapghter Doris in
1929; also by four sisters and -one
brother.

Funeral service was held
Thursday, May 18, for Harold
Walden of Kincardine and re-
'eently of Brookhaven Nursing
Home, Wingham, who passed
away at Brookhaven the previous
Monday. Rev. Barry Passmore of
Wingham officiated and inter-
ment was in Kincardine Ceme-
tery. Linklater's funeral home
was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Bill Griffith,
Matheson McGaw, Wilton Bell,
Bill Irwin, Ben Ruttle and•George
Gordon. Floral tributes were
carried by Bert Preston, Wallace
McConnell, Norval Nesbitt and
Norman Clinton.
Mr. Walden was in his 78th year
and death followed a lengthy ill-
ness. Born in Huron Township, he
was a son of the late John Walden
and ,Mary Jane Beatty. He
worked at a Kincardine factory
for+many years before becoming
ill.
Mr. Walden was a member of
Kincardine United Church.
Surviving are one daughter,
Mrs. Lloyd (Lillian) Sparks of
Sarnia, and three sons, William
and Eric of Wingham, Donald of
Kincardine. Also surviving are 12
grandchildren, four great-grand-
children and one brother Robert
of Kincardine..Hiis� Wife, the

in 93rd year
Following a lengthy illness,
Mrs. George Warwick passed
away at Huronvtiew, Clinton, on
Wednesday of last week. Mrs.
Wtt (wick, formerly of Bluevale,
was in her 93rd year.
Born on the sixth concession of
Turnberry, she was the former
Mary Louisa Higgins, a daughter
of the late Elijah Higgins and
Frances McMichael. She at-
tended Powell's school.
She married. Mr. Warwick
about 61 years ago and he prede-
ceased her in 1940. She continued
to reside with her son Lloyd until
going to Huronview.
Surviving are four sons, Robert
of Toronto, John of Morris Town-
ship, Jim of Blyth, Lloyd of Blue -
vale, and one daughter, Mrs. Jim
(Isabel) .Shortreed of Walton.
Also surviving are 13 grandchil-
dren, 12 great-grandchildren, two
sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Effie) Fitch
of Gorrie and Mrs. Gordon (Leta )
Walker of Wingham; and two
brothers, Robert of Belgrave and
Gordon of Morris Township. She
was predeceased by one brother,
Nelson.
The late Mrs. Warwick rested
at the M. L. Watts Funeral Home
in Brussels where funeral service
was held Friday at. 2 p.m. Offi-
ciating was Mr. Karel deKeijer of
Bluevale United Church, where
deceased was a member. Inter-
ment was in Brussels Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jim War-
wick, Wayne Warwick, Ken
Shortreed, Doug Warwick,
grandsons of the deceased,
George Turnbull and George
Ross.

Jamieson Melvin Pettypiece of
Kinloss Township died in Wing -
ham and District Hospital on
Thursday, May 25, following a
long illness.
Son of the late Herbert Petty -
piece and Matilda Hetherington,
he wastornDecember 13, 1899 in
Kinloss Township. He attended
SS 10, Kinloss and later took up
farming. Mr. Pettvpiece never
married.
He was a member of White-
church United Church and for
several years served as the,
representative for Kinloss, on the
Wingham District High School
Board.
He is survived by his sister,
Mrs. Elwood (Sarah) Barbour- of
RR 2, Lucknow, three nieces and
two nephews.
Service was held Saturday at
the R. A. Currie and Son Funeral
Home with interment in Tiffin's
Cemetery. Pastor. Karel De
Koeijer officiated.
Pallbearers were Charles Tay-
lor, Ed Waddell, Wallace Conn,
Ken Dowling, Russel Ross and
Bob Henderson. Floral tributes
were carried by Gary Barbour,
Danny Montgomery and Doug
MacDonald,.

Brother dies 11,
Sarnia Iu.spital
Jack Aitchison passed away in
Sarnia Hospital on Sunday, fol-
lowing a brief illness.
Surviving, besides his wife, are
one brother Harvey Aitchison of
Wingham.
The body rested at Robb's Fu-
neral Home in Sarnia until Tues-
day when funeral service was
held at 1:30. p.m. Interment was
in Sarnia Cemetery . -

for three years
Mrs. William J. Armstrong
formerly of 270 Sliuter Street,
Wingham, passed away Sunday
at Huronview, Clinton, in her 91st
year.
Born in Ltmdon, England, Mrs.
Armstrong was the former Ger-
trude Burrows, a daughter of the
late Alfred John Burrows and
Frances Hughes. She and her
husband came to this area three
years ago and he predeceased
her in June of 1969.
Left to mourn her passing are
two daughters, Mrs. Wilbur
(Irene) Gannett of Wingham and
Mrs. Bernard (Gladys) Ings of
New Jersey, USA; and one son,
Rev. Jack Armstrong of Monte-
video, Uruguay. Also surviving
are eight grandchildren.
The late Mrs. Armstrong rest
ed at the Giffin -Mack funeral
chapel, Danforth and Main
Avenue, Toronto until Wednes-
day at 1 p.m. when funeral serv-
ice was conducted by Rev. An-
thony Sampson of The Church of
the Nazarene. Interment follow-
ed.in Rest Haven Memorial Gar-
dens.

Mother dies
in England
The death 'occurred in Liver-
pool, England, on Thursday, May
18, of Mrs.' W.-E,eForsyth, in her
86th year.
Left to mourn are one son,
William E. Forsyth of Wingham,
one daughter, Mrs. Don
(Christine) Grant of RR 1, For-
mosa, one son and one daughter
in Liverpool, nine grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was conducted
in Liverpool on Saturday, May 20,
followed by cremation.
Mrs. Forsyth is well known in
this area, having visited, mem-
bers of her family several times.
About eight years ago, she stayed .
in Ontario for about a year,
dividing her time between the
Forsyth and Grant families.
