Wingham, in his 81st year. He
is survived by his. wife, the
former Emma East; one son,
W. Marvin of Ottawa; three
daughters, Mrs. E. A. (Beryl)
Elliott of Wingham, Mrs. W. P.
(Hilda) Rowland of Burlington
and Mrs. John N. (Norma)
Hopper of Mississauga , and
nine, grandchildren. He was
predeceased by three sisters
and one brother. The late Mr.
Brown rested at the S. J.
Walker Funeral Home in Wing -
ham. Funeral service will be
held Thursday at 2 p.m. Inter-
ment in Wingham Cemetery.

District Hospital on Saturday,
May 13, Amy Catherine
Abrams of Alice Street, Wing -
harm, a valued minister of the
Pentecostal Assembly of Can-
ada: She is survived by two sis-
ters, Mrs. Milton (Mary) Ren-
ders of Calgary and Mrs. Char-
les (Grace) Deebank of Ingle-
side, Ontario; and her lifetime
co-worker, Miss Frances Bry-
ans of Wingham. The body
rested at the R. A. Currie and
Son Funeral Home in Wing -
ham. Funeral service was held
at the Pentecostal Church Mon-
day evening at 7:30. Remains
were then con eyed to Corn-
wall for furthei'service and in-
terment in Ingleside Cemetery.

dies suddenly
at her home
Miss Gertrude Ellen Newman
of Alfred Street, Wingham;
passed away suddenly at her
home on Sunday in her 75th year.
Born in Toronto, Miss Newman
was a daughter of the late
Christopher Newman and Ger-
trude Fogerty. She. received her
education in Wingham, coming.
here in 1911 and on completion of '•
her schooling returned.to Toronto
where she vias employed by Neil
son's. She retired in 1968. .
Miss Newman was a member
of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic
Church in Wingham, .the ;League
of the Sacred Heart. and the
Catholic Women's League. She..
never married.
Surviving are. one brother,
Christopher Newman of Minnie
Street; one nephew, James New. -
man of Wyoming and two nieces,
Mrs. Bruce (Frances) Edgar of
Goderich and .Mrs. Peter
(Marykae) Bedard of Windsor..
The body rested at the R. A.

where family prayers were said
Tuesday evening at 9 p.m.. Fu-
neral service was held Wednest
•day at 10:30 a.m. from the Sacred
Heart.Church,.Rev, M. Kaminski
officiating. Interment followed in
the Wingham Roman Catholic
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Frank Cask-
anette, Joe Redmond, Jack Er—
nest, Percy Willie, Alex Skinn
and John Sproal.

Mrs.: H. Sewers
dies in hosp.
_ A native of Greenock Town-
ship, Mrs. Harry Sewers of RR 3,
Walkerton, passed away last
Thursday at the Wingham and
District Hospital following a
lengthy illness. She was, in her
78th year. °
Born and educated in Greenock
Township, Mrs. Sewers was the
former Mamie McKinnon, a
daughter of the late Mr: and Mrs.
J. B. McKinnon. She was a mem-
ber of the Salem United Church.
Surviving besides her husband
are three daughters, Mrs. George
(Reta) Drehmann of. Walkerton,
Mrs. James (Mary) Ballagh of
Milverton and Mrs. Currie (Mar=
jorie) Moffat of Culross Town-
ship; four sons, James of Green-
ock, Russell of Teeswater, Bob of
Kitchener and Mac of L9ndes-
boro. -
Also surviving are 23 grand-
children, five great grandchil-
dren, two sisters, Mrs. William
(Grace) Lowey of Dauphin,
Manitoba and Mrs. Bert (Pheme)
Law of London and two brothers,
Morris of Teeswater and Archie
of Culross.
She was predeceased by one
sister and two brothers..
The late Mrs. Sewers rested at
the MacPherson Funeral Chapel
in Teeswater until Slanday at 2:30
when Rev. Arnold . Proud con-
ducted the ,service. Interment
was in Teeswater Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Cam Robert-
son, Alvin Thacker, Earl Dick'
son, Ken Collison, Tom Wharton
and Linton Sitler. Floral tributes
were carried by Russell Bell,
Tom. Melvin, Doug McDonald and
Bill Lindsay.

Mrs. Lillian Patterson and
Mrs. Margaret Hastings were
named as delegates to the con-
vention at Windsor in August at
the meeting of the Wingham
Senior Citizens held last Tuesday
in the council chambers..
Following the opening exer-
rises the members sang the new
theme song and the minutes were
read. The committee in charge
presented an excellent program
-with the girls of The Good Inten-
. tions of Teeswater as special
guests. Frank Collar sang some
sacred solos and Mrs. Mary Arm=
Mrs. J. deGroot
buried Tuesday
Funeral' service was held Tues-
day morning at '11 o'clock at Sac-
red Heart Church for Mrs. John
deGroot of RR 1, Wingham, who
passed away Friday at Victoria
Hospital, London. Rev. M. Kam-
inski and Rev. J. Mooney were
the officiating clergymen and in-
terment followed in the Brussels
Cemetery.
She was carried to her last
resting place by her five sons,
John, Bill, Frank, Tony and Jim
Vd a son-in-law, Grant Barlow of
Bronte., Her . grandchildren
. carried floral tributes.
Mrs. deGroot was in her " 59th,
year and death followed a lengthy
illness. Born in Gemert, N.B.,
Holland, she was the former An-
tonia (Ann) Smits, daughter of
the late Petronella and Johannes
Smits.
She and Mr. deGroot were
married in Holland on April 21,
1938, and they came to Canada
ten years later, settling atLStoco,
Ontario. They came to this area
in 1959.
Mrs. deGroot was a member of
Sacred Heart Roman Catholic
Church, . Wingham, and the
Catholic Women's 'League. .
Surviving besides heij husband
are . four, daughters, Mrs. Maus
(Eileen) Stadel'nleyer of Sit.
Pauls, Mrs. Bill (Maria) Ni,on of
Streetsville, :Mrs. Ron (Nellie)
Sweitzer of Stratford and Mrs.
Grant- (Wilhelmina) Barlow- of
Bronte; five sons, John Jr. of
Trenton, Bill of Streetsville,
Frank of Trenton, Tony and Jim
at home.
Also surviving are two sisters,,
Mrs. Van (Maria) Wanrooy of
Holland and Mrs. Van (Wilhel-
mina) Berlo of Niagara -on -the -
Lake; and eleven grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one
brother, Peter Smits,
Community shower
for bride -elect
ST. HELENS — On Saturday
evening Miss Brenda. Webster,
bride -elect, was guest of honor at'
a community shower in the St.
Helens Hall. Mrs. Harold Gaunt
was chairlady and Miss Cathy
Chandler played several
melodies while the ladies
gathered.
Readings were given .by Mrs.
E. W. Rice, Mrs. Harold Cooper
and Mrs. Bob Aitchison. Mrs.
Gordon McPherson conducted a
bridal contest. Musical numbers
were' given by Janice Gaunt,
Marjorie Murray and the 12th
line ladies sang a humorous song
which was composed by Mrs.
Tom Pritchard.
Assisting the bride in opening
her gifts were, her sister Carol,
and Lynda Spowden with Mrs.
Ralph Small, Mrs. Don Wall and
Mrs. Gordon Campbell arranging
the gifts.
Mrs. Wall read an address of
good wishes. The bride -elect
thanked everyone for their gifts
and invited the 'ladies to open
house at her home on May 27th.
Lunch was served at the con-
clusion by neighbors.

zone meeting held at Chesley and
also the rally at Harriston where
questions were asked and'mem-
bers of Parliament were present
to reply. One subject discussed
was the exhorbitant prices of
hearing aids and changes were
promised' by the government.
It was decided to make a
banner for the zone picnic to -be
held at Harrison Park in Owen
Sound, August 9, and to secure a
bus for transportation there.
Following the meeting lunch
was served and a social hour en-
joyed.
The committee in charge of the
June meeting is Mrs. Mary Bur-
chill, Mrs. Jean Crump, Mrs.
Mabel Cruickshank, Mr. Cope-
land and Mrs. Carter.
