Spence of Brussels, formerly or
Toronto. Miss Spence was in her
24th year. -
Since coming from Toronto a
short time ago, Miss Spence has
resided at the Callander Nursing
Home in Brussels. Her death
occurred Sunday at St. Michael's
Hospital in Toronto.
Surviving are her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. William Spence of Brus-
sels, formerly of Toronto; and
one. brother Karl at home. ...
The late Miss Spence rested at
the Watts Funeral Home in Brus-
sels where service was conducted
by Rev. Eric LeDrew of the Uni-
ted Church. Interme,it was in
Brussels Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, the
former Rita Butler whom he
married in Montreal in 1936; two
sons David.K. and Brian M. both
of Wingham; and six grandchil-
dren. He is also survived by two
brothers, George Sutherland
Cameron Jr. and Donald A. Cam-
eron, both of Wingham; and two
sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Dorothy)
Pegnam of Mississauga and Mrs.
A. (Lillian) Donaldson of Mon-
treal.
The late Mr{. Cameron rested at
the S. J. Walker Funeral Home on
Patrick Street until Wednesday
at 2 p.ln . when funeral service
was conducted by Rev. K. Barry
Passmore. Interment was in
Wingham Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Eric Walden,
William Walden, John Cruick-
shank, Harry Garniss, Charles
Hodgins and A. D. MacWilliam.
Floral tributes were carried to
the grave by three nephews,
Bruce, Doug and Mack Cameron.
Arthur Head is funeral Saturday
buried in Gorrie for Joe Vanstone
Arthur Head, 68, died April 18
in Sarnia General Hospital. He
was born June 14, 1903 at Mid-
dlesborough, England and had
resided in Canada for four years.
He was an army veteran. The
Royal Canadian Legion held a
service in Sarnia. `
Mr. Head 'is survived by one
son Kenneth of Sarnia; one
daughter, Mrs. Frank (Sheila)
Wardell; Middlesborough, Eng-
land; one brother, Ronald, Eng-
land; and five grandchildren.
Rev. John Congram of St.
Giles' Presbyterian Church, Sar-
nia conducted the service at the
Stewart Funeral Home, Sarnia.
,Burial was in Gorrie Cemetery.

'A 'rural- mail courier for 44
ye'aars, David Lee (Lee) Brecken-
ridge bf RR 2, Bluevale, passed
away Saturday at the Wingham
and District Hospital following a
lengthy'illness. He was in his 75th
year.
Mr. Breckenridge was born in
Turnberry Township on Novem-
ber 12, 1897. His parents were the
late Joseph Breckenridge and
Rebecca Peacock. He attended
school at Bluevale and later
farmed. For 44 ' years he
delivered „ mail on Bluevale's
Route 2 and 'he was a prime.

Joseph Vanstone was born in
Wingham, November 8, 1947. He
attended Wingham Public School
and F. E. Madill Secondary
School and was a painter. As a
hobby, he took great pleasure in
travelling to different parts of the
world.
Surviving are, his father and
mother, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Van -
stone (the former Annie Murray)
of Wingham and one sister, Mrs.
Charles .Chins. of Woodstock.
Robt. McWhinney
dies in 86th year
The' death occurred in the
Wingham and District Hospital
on Wednesday, April 19 of Robert
McWhinney of Dungannon. Mr.
McWhinney was in his 86th year
and, death followed a lengthy ill-
ness. .
Born in Ashfield Township, he
was a son of the late William the -
the mailman from making his
appointed rounds.
In 1922, Mr., Breckenridge
married the former Anna Mae
Wheeler in Bluevale: She pre-
deceased him in 1968. He was also
predeceased by a son Barry in
)1966.
Surviving are three sons, Alan,
Rae and Dale, all of Bluevale;
three daughters, . Mrs. Leslie
(Wilda) Trethewey of Petrolia,
Mrs. 'Gordon (Roma) Nicholson
of Brussels and rvirs. Donald
(Brenda) Perrie of Brussels? and
12 grandchildren. Also surviving
are one brother James. of Wing -
ham and foursisters, Mrs. Frank
(Eleanor.) Nichol of Brussels;
Mrs. Earl (Eva) Noble and Mrs.
William (Ruth) ,Thuel l both of
Blyth and Mrs. Arthur (Edyth)
Fields of Lambeth. He was pre-.
deceased by one sister, Mrs.
William (Mary E.) Nicholson.

and four grandchildren. His wi'e,
the former Annie Andrews, pre-
deceased him in. March of 1970.
He was also predeceased by
several brothers and' sisters. •
The body rested at the Mac-
Kenzie. Funeral Home in Luck-
now until Saturday at 2 p.m.
when Rev. Clarence McClena-
- ghan conducted funeral service.
Interment was in Dungannon
Cemetery.

A resident of Howick Township,
prominent in municipal, affairs
for many years and one of those
responsible for the planning and
building of the Howick Central
School, died at his home at RR 2,
Gorrie, on Monday of last week.'
Ernest Hartwell Strong was in his
77th year.
Born in Howick Township, he
was a son of the late John T.
Strong and. Frances Spotten. He'
attended Gough Public School in
Howick Township and the Wing -
ham Business College and farm-
ed in Howick until his retirement
three years ago.
Mr. Strong served on the
Howick Council for 16 years, dur-
ing which time he was councillor,
deputy reeve and. reeve. He was
also prominent in the Red Cross
for many years and helped in the
organization of the Saugeen Con-
servation area.
He was a° member of Knox
Presbyterian Church in Gorrie.
He is survived by his wife, the
former Alberta Jane Witherow,
whom he married in, Mount
Forest, October 26, 1927; one son,
Stewart • Strong of RR 2, Gorrie;
one foster . son, James Taman of
Miami, Florida; and, three
grandchildren, Donna Marie
Strong, Robert Stewart Strong
and Thomas Ernest Strong.. Also
surviving are one brother, Roy of.
Gorrie and one sister Mrs. Carl
(Vera) Pennington of Wingham.
He was predeceased by one son,
Robert Henry, in, infancy.
The late Mr. Strong rested at
the Moir Funeral Home in Gorrie
until Wednesday, April 19, when
Rev. John Brush conducted fu-
neral service. Interment was in
Gorrie Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Elmer and
Robert Witherow,- both of Mount
Forest, Roy Pennington of Wing-
ham, Everett Pennington of
Teeswater, George Pennington of
Mildmay and Alex Graham. of'

Peter E. James, 96, a niddrht
of Valley County, Montana, fon
more than half a century, died
recently at the Deaconess Hos-
pital in Glasgow, Montana.
Funeral service Was held in the
First Lutheran Church in Glas-
gow with burial in Iceland
Cemetery.
A son of Edward and Mary
James, he was.born f: Gorrie on
October 19, 1875. He homesteaded
13 miles south of Richland, Mon-
tana, in 1913.
On July 26, 1916 he married
Jessie E.. Douglas of Weyburn,
Saskatchewan and they celebra-
ted their 50th wedding .anniv
sary at- Our Savior's Lutheran
Church in Larsian, Montana, in.
1966.
.During his early years in
Valley County, Mr, James
freightedgrain 40 miles to Scobey
and 55 miles to Glasgow by team
and wagon, returning 'with lum-
ber and supplies for the farm. He
continued to farm on the home-
stead until two years,go when. he
'Rind his wife moved ' to. Valley
View Home • in Glasgow, . ' He
worked for a time on the Fort
Peck dam project. A
Survivors include his. wife
Jessie of Valley Vie*, a son Ed,
ward and daughter, Mrs. Clar-
ence Belling both of Richland,
Montana; two grandchildren;
two great-grandchildren; a sis-
ter, Mrs. May Douglas of Vic-
toria, B.C. and several nieces and
nephews.
The Dutch Elm disease is now
found from Nova Scotia to On-
tario.
