On Sunday a family dinner was held at the Twin Gables, Listo- wel, to mark the occasion. Mrs. Doig, who resides at The Village Nursing Home was able to attend WI euchre draws good attendance WHITECHURCH — A good attendance marked the pro- gressive euchre -played with 16 tables under the leadership of Mrs. Wallace Conn at the com- munity hall Saturday night. Mrs. Jim Coultes and Mrs. Wesley Tiffin won the prizes for high lady and W. Taylor and Nor- man Coultes took the high prizes for the men. Two draws were conducted by Cheryl Walker. which were won by Mrs. Bill Evans and Dave Gibb_ Members of Whitechurch Women's Institute, sponsors of the evening of cards, served lunch. the dinner. On Wednesday. members of the Howick Ladies' Auxiliary visited during the afternoon with Mrs. Doig and Mr. Doig, who was a dinner guest with his wife at the nursing hone. Telegrams were received from Premier William Davis, Robert Nixon, Robert Stanfield, Prime Minister Trudeau and Murray Gaunt, MPP Huron -Bruce. A plaque from Premier Davis was also received. Y.P. sponsor euchre party FORDWICH — Thirteen tables' were at play at the euchre party held Monday night of last week in the community hall. The evening was sponsored by the Young People of Fordwich United Church. ' Most lone hands, Henry Mundt; special prize, Mrs. Edwin Dietz; high lady, Mrs. Annie Pitten- dreigh; high gent, Gerald D'Arcey; consolation winners, Mrs. Scott Clarkson and Mrs. Bill Jonas. Attend play at Lakeland FORDWICH Their presence made the performance! At least that's what the cast of the play "One Foot in Heaven" thought at Lakeland, Florida when Mr. and Mrs. Peden Connell attended the . play's perfgrmance recently. Mr. and Mrs. Connell along with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Prid- ham have been holidaying in Florida for the past month and while there 'they thought they would attend the South -Eastern Bible College's performance of "One Foot in Heaven". • The play, taken from the best selling book, and later a feature' motion picture "One Foot in Hea- ven", was written by Hartzell Spence, about his father Rev. William Spence, who was minister of Newbridge United Church, a " few miles west of Palmerston. Mrs. Connell is a cousin of the Spence family and when' this was mentioned at the ticket office, the information was relayed to the performers. •She was asked from the stage to stand up. When the play was over the actors came down and `talked with the visitors from Canada. Mrs. Alex Graham, president, welcomed the guests and intro- duced Miss. Lori Moir who came first in the senior division, of the Lions public speaking contest arid. Miss Sandra Carson who came first in the junior division. Mrs. Glad Edgar, on behalf 'of the In- stitute, thanked the girls, who spoke extremely well. She pre- sented them with a small gift. , The remainder of the 'evening was spent in progressive euchre, Mrs. Eldred Cathers winning top ladies' prize and Mrs. Wilbur Hogg se ond. Top ,man was. Alex Graham and, Allan Adams won second. Mrs. Harry King won the consolation prize' and Mrs. William Austin won the lone hand priie. • The annual meeting of , the Women's Institute will be held at the home of. Mrs. Alex Graham on April 19. The nominating com- mittee is Mrs. Glen"Johnston and Mr's. Mel Taylor. Mrs. James Hoey looked after• the' adopted soldier for the month of March. , Visit member at nursing home morning (Wednesday) at 11 a.*f. for James H. O'Donnell of Luck - now who passed away Monday at the Wingham, and District Hospi- tal following a lengthy illness. Requiem mass was celebrated at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Lucknow. Temporary entombment followed in the South Kinloss Mausoleum with the final resting place to be Greenhill Cemetery. MacKenzie Funeral Home in Lucknow was in charge of arrangements. Mr. O'Donnell was in his 52nd year. Born in Kenilworth, he had resided at Lucknow for a number ° of years. At various times, he had farmed in the Lucknow-Holyrood area, driven a school bus, sold in- vestments and been employed by Hall's grocery store in the village. Recently, he and his wife had operated a nursing home on the outskirts of ,Lucknow. He was a member of'St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Luck - now. Left to mourn are his wife, the former Beatrice Dinneen; three daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Sharon) King of Hagersville, Mrs. William (Linda) Schutz of Chat= ham and Ellen at home.; three sons, Terry of Hamilton, Tom of Windsor and Austin ,at home; two grandsons; four brothers, Joseph of London, Pat of Mount Forest, Francis of Cobalt and Bert of Rexdale; and three sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Louise) O'Connor of Elora, Mrs. Edward (Helen) Crowley and Mrs. Garfield (Cecelia) Teeter, both of Guelph. Mrs. Busby demonstrated inserting lace in the seam and each member made a sample. Mrs. Johann explained facings. DREAMY DOLLS WINGHAM — The meeting on April 3rd was a work meeting and Mrs. Currie showed the "ins and outs" of making facings, placing on lace and • casing on her machine. Members were haired off and each made a -sample of a lower edge trimmed with purchased eyelet lace. Any complications' were sorted out by the leaders.
