Easter is theme
of UCW meeting
DON'NY\ROOK-The theme of
the March meeting of United
Church Women, held at the home
of Mrs. Sam Thompson, was
Easter. Mrs. Edward Robinson
and Mrs. Wesley Jefferson were
in charge.
"The Old Rugged Cross" was
sung and Mrs, Ernest Snowden
read the scripture lesson from St.
Luke. Mrs. Stuart Chamney gave
the meditation on the scripture
reading and Mrs. Robinson gave
an Easter meditation. Mrs. Jef-
ferson offered prayer.
A poem, "Easter," was read by
Mrs. William Hardy and Mrs.
Robinson gave an article, "The
Resurrection." Mrs. Margaret
Leddy's reading was "Why
Christ Died".
Business was conducted by
Mrs. Jefferson who also gave a
reading on spring cleaning and
roll call was answered ,with
thoughts for Easter and spring.
Mrs. Chamney read the minutes.
A small bazaar is scheduled for
the April meeting when the roll
call will be a verse for spring.
Mrs. Hilliard Jefferson gave a
piano solo and Mrs. Robinson
took charge of the Easter topic
including a quiz on the life of Je-
sus. "Must Jesus Bear the Cross
Alone" was the closing hymn and
Mrs. Jefferson gave an Irish
blessing. Lunch was served by
the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Wil-
liam Hardy and Mrs. Charles
Jefferson.

man's also. Sunday Mr. and Mrs.
Dettman drove Mrs. Schaefer
home to Simcoe.

Des Brophy of Wingham was
treated at Wingham & District
Hospital Sunday for a fractured
left collarbone, injured ribs and
multiple abrasions to his face,
hands and shoulder.
Mr. Brophy was operating a
snowmobile on the west side of
McLean's Sideroad when the ma-
chine tipped, throwing him off.
Following treatment Mr. Brophy
was released. The accident was
investigated by Prov. Const. R.
F. Wittig of Wingham.
James Thompson of Bluevale
required treatment at hospital
for a laceration to his chin re-
ceived when he fell -against the
handle of a snowmobile. ThiS ac-
cident was investigated by Prov.

Kenton Scholtz of Goderich
spent a few days of the holidays
with his grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. Lorne Durnin while his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton
Scholtz were on holidays.
Mrs. Tom Inglis and Betty on
Sunday visited with Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Inglis of Ripley. Mrs. Jack
Inglis recently returned from
hospital following "surgery.
Last week school pupils of all
grades enjoyed the winter vaca-
tion which somehow replaces the
old fashioned Easter Holidays.
With Good Friday coming this
week they have a four-day school
week and next week with ,Easter
Monday a holiday, they again
have a four-day school week to
get back into studies.
Fred Davis of Windsor spent
the weekend with Mr. and Mrs.
Garnet Farrier to attend the fun-
eral of his grandmother, Mrs.
Marie Davis of Brussels who died
suddenly at Wingham where she
with other members of Brussels
WI had presented a nwhber in the •
Wingham talent show. Mr. and
Mrs. Garnet Farrier attended the
funeral on Sunday at Brussels
Anglican Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Taylor of E.
Wawanosh were Sunday visitors
with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Caslick.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lennips
and Mrs. Bessie Mullis were in
London last . Tuesday. Albert had
an appointment with the' doctors
.at St: Joseph's Hospital for his
leg. His leg has healed and he
does not have to report back to
hospital again. They- were ac-
companied home by Miss Joann
Cousins who spent the holiday
with Mrs. Mullis.

and family. moved on Monday to
the house on the . Schowalter,
farm, formerly the Strome farm.

Thorndale, a sister of Mrs. Bessie
Mullis, spent the weekend with
her, returning home on Sunday
accompanied by her daughter Jo-
ann who had been holidaying
here.

Exeter spent the weekend with,
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John
Gaunt and her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Bob Adams. On Sunday Mr.

spent the weekend with his par-

law and her parents in Wingham.

be pleased -to learn that Lynn has
improved in health and is now
able to attend school.

visited on Monday with Mr. and

Whitechurch YPS on Saturday
evening entertained Langside
YPS to a skating party held at the
Lucknow Arena and then to
Whitechurch Community Me-
morial Hall where all enjoyed
dancing to recorded music until
midnight. Lunch was then ser-
ved.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Porteous of
Lucknow called Sunday after-
noon at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Victor Emerson.
Home for the weekend were Jo-
ann Laidlaw of Goderich, Irene
DeBoer, Stratford, Paul Laidlaw

hockey team in the tournament
last week. In the game with God-
erich they won 4-1; Kincardine 8-
0; Owen Sound 7-3 and the second
game with 'an Owen Sound team
at the end of the play was 2-2 and ,
in 5 minutes overtime ,the.
Marys team won on shots on goal.
They won the trophy.

Congratulations to Mrs. Tom
Inglis of West Wawanosh who on
Friday, March 31, celebrates her.
91st birthday. Mrs. Inglis enjoys
fairly good health since her re-
cent hospitalization. She has five
sons, Mack of Highgate, Alex,
West Wawanosh, Roddy of Earl -
ton, Jack of Ripley and Tom at
home." There are two daughters,
Mrs. Robert (Pauline) Adams
and Mrs. Betty Flanagan who has
been at home with her mother for
over a wear to assist 'with ' the

Huronview on Friday evening for
an hour of dancing. The club
members along with the evening
volunteers, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey
Howard, Willa Taylor and
several residua' took part in
some of the round,' wheelchair
and square dances.
Monday, March 19, was once
again the day for The Old Tyme
Music session, with the entertain-
ment being provided this week by
Norman Speir and two guests,
Mr. and lilirs.Bert Finlay. The
first two gentlemen played vio-
lins while Mrs. Finlay' accom-
panied them on the piano. The
residents in attendance had, as
usual,a.very enjoyable afternoon
of their favorite songs. A special
and unique event on the program
was the stepdancing by Miss
Bonnie Storey. Her talents were
appreciated. A group of six vol-
unteer ladies from Goderich was
on hand to render their services.
We thank them very much for
their time and effort.
Plans were made at the Mon-
day afternoon meeting of the
Huronview Women's Auxiliary
for the spring tea which is to be
held in the auditorium ,,on Wed-
nesday, May 3.
The Woodham' and Kirkton
men's club was in charge of the
Thursday Family Night pro-
gram. President Glen Copeland
introduced the numbers which
included dances by Janice Burgin
and Susan Spence; the Morrison
