Give us your facts.
Well put you in
the picture..
Merchandising and service businesses make
a '$50 -billion contribution to the Canadian
economy every year. They employ more
people and produce more revenue than any
other industry group.
Now, in the final phase of the 1771 Census
of Canada, ' we're measuring the precise
share, of that activity generated 'by each
business in these categories. The . figures
relating to your operation are vital to this
measuring process.
If you are a wholesaler, retailer, or sup-
plier of services, you will have received a
census questionnaire to complete. Please
fill it in and mail it back promptly.
When the Census of Merchandising ' and
Service . Businesses has been taken, we will
be able to produce a clear picture of national
trends in these fields, so you can see exactly
- where you fit in. -
Whatever your sales volume may be, the
1971 census data will show you how your
performance compares with others of similar
size, nationally, provincially, or in your own
county or census district. Sales, payrolls and
number of employees are among the vari-
ables you can measure.
your individual information will continue k,
to be held in strictest c nfidence, as required
by law. We won't dish figures
P _ gu in cases
where there are fewer than three firms in a
given category, so no one will be able to
identify your specific results.
The Merchandising and Service Division
of Statistics. Canada is taking this census to
produce accurate, up-to-date information to
help in your business planning. To do this,
it needs your up-to-date results. The breadth
and thoroughness of the Jcensus is what
makes it so important to so many people in
business and government alike.

If Elizabeth Taylor is not living
proof that life begins at 40, she
sure does prove that life does not
end there.'And if anyone has lived
a life during which everything
has been tried at least once, it is
Taylor. Somehow,though, even if
we have not always been able to
condone what she has done we
cannot deny that she has man-
aged to bounce bark from many
of the rough blows that life has
handed her and we cannot .help
but feel a little bit, of admiration
for her for that.
Elizabeth Taylor celebrated
her 49th birthday last , week;
these forty years she has earned
• more money than probably any
'other woman in the world and 'she
has done it the hard way, by.
working for it; she has been
wooed by the world's richest and
mostfambus men; been married
five times, divorced three. times,
widowed once, raised three chil-
dren, adopted a little•German girl
who. might never have walked
' had it not been for Elizabeth's
money. that paid for medical
treatment; made umpteen mov-
ies and been • hailed as a great
actress by critics all over the
world; and seldom been out of the
public eye, a cold uncaringpublic
that, was always quick to criti-
cize, slow to praise.
Some life! Anything could be-
gin at 40 and be better than that.
And strangely enough, her life
really has only begun in the. last
few years. In her 40th year she is
more beautiful than ever. She js
obviously happy, slim and svelte
and looking great in couturiere
fashi6ns when she doesn't go to
extremes; and the problems she
has had with her health do not ex-
haust her energy as they did
when she was a working girl and
rising at 5 a.m. to begin a 12 or 14 -
hour day:
She has recently played in ,a
movie made in Yugoslavia about
the life of President Tito in which
her hubby Richard Burton plays
the title role but her movie roles
now are few and far between and
more for fun than anything else.
They are now in Hungary where
Burton is starring in a movie.
Birthday celebrations included a
big weekend bash in Budapest
which cost a pretty penny and
from Richard she received a •
huge bauble, another one -of -its -
kind treasure from some 'exotic.
place in the world. Don't get
excited, though; that's like you or
I buying a stringof pearls in
Woolworth's. And they d plenty
for others, though like Frank
Sinatra, they prefer to do it quiet-
ly, not for show or public praise.
I hope for this.star of stars, life
will really .begin at 40. From the
time. she first climbed astride
Velvet as a ,young teenager in.
that favorite movie shehas given
us so many hours of fine enter-
tainment.
Being a hockey fan is fine,
but,.when the same fan is the
father of ne of the players in
the Brui -Hawks game, in-
terest becomlyt a little more
intense. The expression on
Murray Gerrie's face tells its
own story. -Staff Phot• .
