The participants were the grade 7 and i3 pupils who were divided into eight teams. There were 21 students on each team. Approximately 168 students participated in 18 events. Instructors of each event were parents and teachers. Altogether there were 40 teachers and par- ents involved. The eighteen events are the following: Basketball shooting, alternate hand wall toss, volleyball serve, fi underhand wall catch, endurance hang, accuracy throw, balance beam jump, setups, soccer con- trol, trap football snap, 4 hops and a jump, basketball dribbling, one foot skipping, volleyball hop, grab walk, bear bag, shuttle relay, hockey shoot, 3 double foot jump. In the individual score race for the girls the winner was Alice Versteeg with 44 points. In second place was a tie with Dianne Brown, Gloria Ruttan and Mary Beth Riley each having 42 points. They Were followed by Nancy Is Zurbrigg and Carol Noble with 41 points. In the boys division we had Paul Inglis first with -45 points, followed by Ron : Riley with 44 points and third, Steven Kaufman with 43 points. • The team winners were: first team 2, captained by David Crowe and Linda Martin with 186 points. Second, team 3, with 175 points, captained by Ron Riley and Carol Noble. Third with 174 points, cap- tained by Paul Inglis .and Gloria, Ruttan. Awards were given to the first place individual winners, Alice Versteeg and Paul Inglis. They each received trophies. Each member of team 2 will receive an arm bar which will read Spgrtsathon Winner., All the individuals who completed eighteen events will receive special certificates. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Wright returned home Saturday after spending a month at Pharr, Tex- as. While there they had a trip to Hawaii. We are sorry to report that Gordon has been hospita- lized since coming home. Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Green, ley and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Brian Greenley, Mrs. Shirley Heim- becker and family, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Dodd visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Brian Clarke at Sermon stresses aim of' true Christian life Showing Christian love and cQpcern for others was the theme of the morning worship service in the Wingham United Church on Sunday. Rev. Barry Passmore's sermon title was "He Took It upon Himself". He spoke of out- standing Christians like Martin Luther King, Albert Schweitzer, Dietrich Bonhoeffer who could .-have lived peaceful and comfort- able lives but took it upon them- selves to break away from the good life and scarifice their own comforts to help others. He urged this kind of sacrifice for Christians in our area, giving for others and finding people to help without wanting reward; and said that is what being a Christian is all about. Windham couple wed 55 years Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence' Willis of Josephine Street last week re- minisced on 55 years of married life as they quietly observed their wedding - anniversary at their home. Married ' on March 14, 1917, in the Brussels Anglican Church, on what Mrs. Willis describes as F`a - beautiful spring day", ' they farmed in Grey Township most of their married lives. They. retired about 1961 and came td live in Wingham in June of .1970. Both Mr. and Mrs. Willis enjoy reason- ably good health. Mr. and Mrs. Willis have six daughters and one son, Mrs. Roy (Gertrude) Koch and Mrs. Cecil (Vera) Miller, both of Kurtzville; Mrs. Howard (Irene) Spiers of Alberta; Mrs. Harvey (Mildred) , McConnell of Guelph; Mrs. Allen (Lola) 'Barnard of Stratford; Mrs. Clarence (Betty) Russell of arriston and William of RR 4, ngham. Elston presiding. After the opening exercises the business part of the meeting was conducted. The program con- vener was Mrs. Norman Keating and the theme of the meeting was "Resolutions". Roll call was answered by a favorite Irish song or verse. The rneet motto was "Resole' to do what you know you oIt to do, is a good everyday esolution. "- Mr s. Keating spoke on the topic 'What has been accomplished n • the fight ' against pollution'. Mrs. , Bruce MacDonald pro- vided Irish music on the piano and Mrs. F. The different types of sleepwear and materials were discussed and Mrs. Watson demonstrated how to straighten materials. Care Insurance Plan and in the best interests of the residents recommended to their members, that they participate in the Extended Care Insurance Program. A report to nursing home operators stated, "The board ex- pressed confidence in Dr. Potter, minister of health and trusts that through mutual. co-operation the plan will be implemented for the best interests of all involved. "The board appreciates Dr. Potter's promise to keep an open door for the discussion of prob- lems and that he is quote 'nego- tiable' and the board agrees to his proposal that there will be monthly meetings between his office and the association." SENIOR LADIES Mrs. Lou Carmichael and Mrs. Margaret Robertson were tied for high 'single in the Senior Ladies' League this week. Their scores were 162.
