WILLIAM CARTER of Blyth and Norman Wightman 'of
Auburn were judged the best dressed couple (senior) at the
Belgrave Skating Carnival Saturday evening. Mr. Carter,
as the "lady", said that their romantic attachment was
brief. They met that evening a,t the carnival. Mr. Carter
also took the prize as the oldest skater on the ice. He ip 73

centres on West Indies

Grade 5 „ of East Wawanosh
School presented an assembly
covering the discovery of
'America bv the commendable
Christopher. Columbus, to recent
hijackings of planes, on Feb-
ruary 23..
The assembly. opened with "0
Cada" played by •Mrs.
The 23rd Psalm aid
songs were sung as a semi -scrip-
ture session.
If you haven't already dis-
,covered the connection between
the brilliant Columbus and the
not -so -brilliant hijacker, they
both end up in the West Indies.
The assembly centred on the
West Indies, naturally.
Kenny Marks made his comical
star debut as Christopher Colum-
bus while .other members of the
class played the parts of Chris'.
father, Queen Isabella, the digni-
fied captains and disheartened
Sailors.. •
. . Several songs such s.a"Jam-
aica Farewell" and "'Yellow
Bird" were sung by the girls of
the class while. the boys contri-
buted sailors' songs.
Bradley Cook played the sinis-
ter hi-jacker who planned to hi-
jack a plane to Cuba. As the other
passengers assembled in their
places the villain held his brief-
case tightly and when the unsus-
pecting stewardess offered him a
lowly salmon . sandwich he or,
dered that he be taken to Cuba,
non-stop, of course. When they

BELGRAVE — The March,
meeting of the Anglican Church
, Women was held at the home of
Mrs. Edna Nethery with 12 in
attendance.
The meeting opened by singing,
"Onward. Christian Soldiers".
Miss Mary. Isabel Nethery led in
prayer and read the scripture.
The Lord's prayer was repeated
in unison.
Minutes of the last meeting
were rad by the secretary, Mrs.
Clare Van Camp. The treasurer's
report was given by Mrs. Edna
Nethery. The roll calf was an-
sitvered by naming a favorite
'hymn. Plans were made to hold a
bake sale and tea on St. Patrick's
Day, in the community rooms.
The draw was won by Mrs.
Hugh Rinp. •
Plans were made to visit at
Huronview in April instead of the 0.
regular meeting. Dues were paid
and 16. cents were put in the
travelling apron for World Day of
Prayer. Everyone signed cards
to send to members- who are ill. '
Miss Mary4sabel IVethery read
an article, "Religion and Life" by
Padre Young, and a poem, "Just
Folks".
A contest was conducted by
Mrs. Nethery and Rev. Stokes
closed the meeting with prayer.
Grace was sung and lunch served
by the hostess.

relief of the other passengers.
The assembly closed with "God
Save the Queen" and unfortu-
nately neither the Cuban nor Ital-
ian anthems were sung. Tough

Unit meets at
Taylor home
BELGRAVE — The Evening
Unit of the United Church Women,
was held , at 'the home of Mrs.
Jack Taylor on Thursday with 16
present. ••
The singing of "Happy the
Home When God Is There"
opened the worship service. Mrs.
Kenneth Wheeler read the scrip-
ture. Mrs. Cliff Logan gave a
reading, "Happiness", assisted
by Mrs. George Michie and Mrs,'
Logan offered prayer.
The assistant leader, Mrs.
Laura Johnston, conducted the.
business. Minutes w- 're read and
offering received and dedicated
by Mrs. Johnston. The general
meeting will be held on March 30.
Everyone was reminded to check
the list of articles needed by the
Midwegtern Regional Centre at
Palmerston. All donations may
be left in ,the church basement.
The next meeting will be held
at the home of Mrs. Norman
Cook. Mrs. William Coultes will
have the worship; Mrs. Ross
Anderson's group the program;
;Ars. Cliff Logan's group.. the
lunch.
Mrs. William Coultes and Mrs.
Norman Cook had charge of the
program on Angola. A question ,
period followed. The singing of
"0 Jesus I Have Promised" and
the benediction closed the meet-
ing.
Lunch was served by Mrs. Ross
Anderson's group.

McEwen will celebrate her 89th '
birthday on March. 15. She also
has a sister. Mrs. Olive Phillips.of
Kitchener, who will celebrate her
11st birthday on March 17.
