Brian Siefert of Fordwich was this year's King of the Carni- val. The evening got off to a good start with a hockey game be- tween the girls' teams of Palm- erston and Fordwich. The visit- ors won 4-1. ' Judging of costumes resulted as follows Fancy Costume, boys six and under: Darran Meehan; Larry Weber; Carl Martin. Fordwich Personal Notes Miss Margaret Sothern, nurse - in -training at Guelph General Hospital, spent the weekend with her parents. Curtis Jordan is . confined to Victoria Hospital, London, hav- ing undergone surgery last week. Miss Mary• Elizabeth Topham returned to Guelph over the weekend where she is a nurse -in - training at the hospital, having spent the past two weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Top- ham. Gary Klaassen of1'oronto spent the weekend at his home here. Misses 'Judy and Karen Lynn and Paul Polorick of Orillia visited Sunday with Mr, and Mrs. Earl Ridley. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wiebb of St. Catharines visited over the weeks end with Ross Doig and with Mrs., Doig at the nursing home,' They also visited with other relatives in town. Miss Betty Ashley of Gowati;S' town spent the weekend with Miss Mabel Loughran. MiSs Joanne McCrae of Pali*- erston spent the weekend with Mrs. Phyllis Bolander, Mrs. Stanley Bride is in Ottawa this week representing the FWf at the annual meeting of the Canadian Commission Uneseo. Mr, and Mrs. John Tudan ,and family of Port Credit spent the weekend at their home here. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Patterson and boys of Toronto spentthe, weekend .with Mrs. Pearl Patter-. son. Mrs. Patterson, who had spent the past two weeks with members of her : family at Till- sonburg and Toronto, returned home with them. Mr. and Mrs. Les Watkins of Toronto and John Harris of New- market spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Clare Harris. Holger Espensen of Brampton spent last week at his home here. Mrs. Lynn Ferguson of George- town spent a few days last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Carswell. Mrs. Bernice Sparling spent a couple of days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Don Gedcke. Mr. and Mrs. H. Madgette of Weston were weekend visitors at their home here. Most people would think of automobile fires as being asso- ciated with crashes. But analysis • of all vehicle fires in Britain in a recent year turned up the ,sur- prising fact that only 4 per, cent were caused by crashes. Of the others, 31 per cent originated in. the electrical wiring, and 28 per cent in the engine. F )RDWICH--Howick Central School held a very successful euchre last Thursday evening. High lady was Mrs. Leon Schnei- der with Mrs. George Pitten- dreigh, second. High man was Bob Brown and second, Jack Brown, the special prize going to Mrs. John Freeman. A cake was auctioned off and won by Charlie Black. of Gorrie. Prizes were donated by Gorrie. and Wroxeter Women's Insti- tutes.' The worship service was taken by Mrs. Bert Wylie, Mrs. Parker Eurig and Mrs. Jack Brown beside a worship centre of spring flowers and the open Bible., • Mrs. Wylie gave a poem, pray- er and read scripture. The mean- ing of the different days of Lent was given by Mrs_ Jack Brown who also read a poem, "A Gift of rath"i . A meditation on springtime was given by Mrs. P. Eurig who closed with prayer. The program was conducted by Miss Violet Beswetherick and Mrs. Austin Stinson. Miss Bes- wetherick read a missionary story, "The Samaritan Won'ian". Mrs. Stinson read the story of a Labrador. missionary. Mrs. Ben Gibson presided for the business period. The roll call was a Lenten- thought. Plans for the EaSter thankoffering service were discussed and final arrangements were made for the St. Patrick's smorgasbord supper to be held March 16th. Wroxeter Mrs._ Glenn McKercher of Jamestown, Mrs. George Hislop Sr of Brussels, Mrs. George His- lop Jr., Mrs. William Hart and Mrs. -George Griffith attended the' funeral of the late Milton Beller- by of Kitchener last Thursday. Miss Margaret Griffith spent a week with Miss Ann McKercher at Blenheim. Minutes of last meeting were read by Elaine D'Arcey. Discussion and demonstrations on alterations, cutting and mark- ing of material were done by the leaders.
