WITH OCTOBER I ; BULB PLANTING
MONTH—Tiptoeing t"'•ugh the tulips? Or
maybe just pondering the petals. The
spring tulips seen here are an example of
the many fine bulb varieties that can be
planted in the fall ready to bloom at
winter's end. October is Bulb Planting
Month in 'Ontario, and the Ontario De-
partment of Agriculture and Food recom-
mends planting begin now before severe
weather sets in and bulbs are unableto
root properly. All bulb beds should be.
well covered with straw •mulch, leaves or
peat over the winter, to prevent 'severe
freezing and help keep the soil temper-
ature evert.
