To the Editor:
This is to advise that rabies
is still very much of a threat in
Bruce County.
Confirmed" cases continue to
be uncovered in various areas
throughout the County.
As an example a young fox,
later confirmed positive, was
recently shot near a built up
area in. Southampton, after it
had provided a scare and a nar-
row escape for some of the resi-
dents of the area.
Because of the risk of dogs
and cats becoming infected• by
wildlife.and subsequently trans-
mitting the infection to humans
Anti Rabies vaccination clinics
are again being scheduled dur-
ing the month of September.
These free clinics are being
conducted by the Canada De-
partment of Agriculture in co-
operation with Bruce County
Health Unit.and Municipal gov-
ernments.
As vaccination is only .con-
sidered effective in dogs and
cats for one year, any efforts
to encourage your readers to
present their animals for vac-
cination or re -vaccination at
these clinics will beappreciat-,
ed and will be a benefit to the
community as a whole.
Yours truly,
Dr. R. B. Turnbull

Wilderness cures
The campers were a bit old-
er than usual but Dr. Raymond
Vickers has reported that an
experimental summer camp
high in the Rockies proved "an
unequivocal success. " Average
camper' age: 69 years!
Picked from among psychiat-
ric patients at Fort Logan 'Ment-
al Health Center, Denver, Colo.
the campers suffered from such
mental ills as manic depres-
sive psychoses and paranoia(de-
lusions of persecution).
Patients responded so well
to traditional camp routine--
supervised nature trips, archery
sessions; fishing and singing
around camp fires --that D r.
Vickers believes that ' many
mental diseases among the eld-
erly may be wrongly ascribed
to physical deterioration.
At camp, he said, "patients
learned quickly, made good
judgments, and were properly
oriented in space and time. "
Paranoid patients lost their de-
lusions and depressed patients.
became very active.
When adhesive on envelope
flap doesn't stick, try quick
application' of nail polish. Dries
quickly, leaves no smudge.
