Player of the week''
Steve Corbett, a cross
country runner, is also
involved in the track
events of 100 and 400
metre hurdles.
Steve, who lives in
Seaforth, practises six
days a week leaving only
one day for rest.. His
practises run from 13, to
2 hours in length and

Ludwig his coach. .
Steve started these
sports in Grade 8 and this
year in Grade 11 is his
fourth year. He picked
these sports because he
enjoys the competition
and recognition that he
gets for himself and his
schtol. From these sports
he also gets enjoyment,
an opportunity to do his
best and compete against
others.
Steve thinks that more
students do not get . in-
volved insors t because
they are afraid they
cannot do better than
others- so -do not -try. --Also,- -
Reed Career Service
by Paul Hartman
You've undoubtedl
seen Howie Meeker oh
the tube lately pushing
something called Reed
Career Service.
If you, don't know what
Reed Career Service is,
it's simply a Canadian
Company engaged in the
creation and "distribution
of career awareness
material to, assist
students who are in the
process of-making-eareer
decisions.
Reed offers a video
cassette system complete
with 137 cassettes which
bring the viewer face to
face with people from
hundreds of different
professions. The Com-
pany believes (and
rightly so) that the
decision of choosing a
career is probably one of
the most important ones
you'll ever make.
Therefore this decision
should be made with
extreme care and Reed
thinks that the system
will aid students in
making this decision.
I spoke with Mr. Gord
Smith the head guidance
omical
counsellor at C} $$ to get
his viewpoint on the
system.
The first thing thatlMr.
Smith stressed was that
the price .tag (ap-
proximately $7,500)
would make the purchase
of the system almost
impossible for this
school.
He did however
mention that if enough
public pressure .was
exerted tira " psstbiy
could be a chance that a
system could be bought
and shared among the
five Huron County
Schools.
Despite the price Mr.
Smith is all in favor of the
system and after the
viewing a sample of it
says it is of very high
quality.
My basic viewpoint of
the system has to be a
positive one. What better
way to introduce career
resource material than.
with today's most
papular medium of video.
Itis my pin'on that the
Huron C un y school
board sh ld seriously

training. Steve feels that
to be good at a particular
sport you have to train.
Finally, Steve says that
more school spirit can be
achieved among students
if they get greater
recognition.

were defeated by

The girls struggled
through player ab-

On Monday, the team
compensated for their
loss in ' Stratford by
beating a weak ` team
from Seaforth by a score
of 37-24. The high scorers

By Chris Carter
On Monday, November
3, the senior girls
basketball team played
the Seaforth girls at
C.H.S.S. Without their
coach, Mr. Howard being
present at the game, the
girls found it difficult to
perform to their fullest
ability.
Though they fought
well, they found their
shooting capacity less
advanced than that of the
Seaforth team, losing 54-

In a field of over 230 girls,
Lori ran 22nd. This
placement put her ahead
of 4 of the 5 girls who beat
her in WOSSA, including
the WOSSA Champion.
Lori ran the 3,2 kilometer
race in a personal best

How did everyone do
with the number series?
Great? Here's the series
again: 9, 7, 8, 7, 7, 7. The
next number is 6. Notice
that the first, third, fifth
numbers decrease
(9,8,7). The seventh
number in the series
should be 6. Every other
number starting with the
second term in the series
is 7, and -7 should be the
the pile up.
The California Cuties
used many of the tricks
which have been
established as classics
such as, throwing water
on the other team, joking
around with members. of
the audience and making
the . whole game a
laughing matter.
All in all, the game was
well worth the admission
price and the match was
very entertaining.
