Four foot Roxanna Edwards' of Clinton has no fear
of Llano Lancer who towers over her at 16 hands
high. Roxanna has been riding Llano for three
years now, along with her own gelding Lucky
Bonanza and other horses at Lynn Flowers stables.
This year Roxanna entered the show ring for the
first time and already has a number of ribbons and
awards to her credit. (Shelley McPhee photo)

What were you doing,

Sthool was a big part of

there was television,

This young Clinton girl
will probably remember
how short she was and
her nickname "Shrimp"
but more importantly
she'll remember Llano

favorite friends.
Roxanna will still have
her first, second and sixth

have the four fourths and
the two fifths she won in
Seaforth, the second and
two fourths she captured
in Walkerton and the two

she brought home from
Ripley, all during the
first year she entered the

Roxanna won't

television or time trying
on her mother's make-up,
but she'll vividly recall.

her cowboy boots and the
many hours she spent
everyday feeding,
brushing, watering and
riding horses at Lynn
Flowers stables outside
of town.
She'll remember' Lynn
as the teacher who first
put her on horseback'
when she was only 9 -
years -old and she'll
probably smilewhenshe
thinks of the skinny kitten
that Lynn gave her as 'a
pet. •
When' she thinks of
Llano, the 20 -year old
gelding, Roxanna will
remember how he
towered over her. But he
was gentle and always
called o out to Roxanna
when she entered the
stable.
And of course there was
Lucky Bonanza, better
known as .. Buddy.
Roxanna will never
forget August 21, her 12th
birthday, when the in-
ternational and
provincial champion
palomino pinto arrived as
a birthday present from
her parents.
Roxanna will have
forgotten her disap-
pointment when her
parents wouldn t let her
attend a horse riding
school in Ohio. She'll
remember her mother's
words, ' "Your education
must come first if you
want to be a horse trainer
or a veterinarian."
When Roxanna grows
up, her interests may
change but she'll. never
forget how to make
friends with a horse.
She'll tell yon that horses
identify things by their
sense of smell and the
way to gain their trust is
togently blow intheir
nostrils.
Roxanna Edwards may
not . remember watching
Family Feud on TW and
her heart might not take
a leap when she hears old
Rex Smith and Shaun
Cassidy songs, buther
memories of being a 12,
year-old will be equally
happy and important
ones.,
