Four foot Roxanna Edwards' of Clinton has no fear of Llano Lancer who towers over her at 16 hands high. Roxanna has been riding Llano for three years now, along with her own gelding Lucky Bonanza and other horses at Lynn Flowers stables. This year Roxanna entered the show ring for the first time and already has a number of ribbons and awards to her credit. (Shelley McPhee photo) sports Roxanna dikes to horse around By Shelley McPhee What were you doing, when you Were 12 years old? Sthool was a big part of my daily routine, but there was television, biking to the beach and Friday night roller skating. I remember spending hours flipping through my Seventeen fashion magazine, drooling over The Monkees and spending hours with girlfriendsin our secret fort were we painted our nails bright pink and talked about boys. Undoubtedly Roxanna ,Eflwards ,ill Kaye far different. memories when in later years she recalls what it was like to be 12. This young Clinton girl will probably remember how short she was and her nickname "Shrimp" but more importantly she'll remember Llano `' 'Lancer , and Lucky Bonanza; two of her favorite friends. Roxanna will still have her first, second and sixth place awards that she won in Kincardine, she'll have the four fourths and the two fifths she won in Seaforth, the second and two fourths she captured in Walkerton and the two second place ribbons that she brought home from Ripley, all during the first year she entered the show ring on horseback. Roxanna won't remember too many nights in front of the television or time trying on her mother's make-up, but she'll vividly recall. Farming and curling- don't mix By Drusilla Leitch This has been what you might call a "no -news - week at the. Seaforth Curling Club, mainly because curling. got off to a > slow start with both men's and ladies' draws being .postponed, to commence this week. The mixed draws, however, did get underway on Wednesday and 'Thur- sday nights with lots- of spares in sight. I guess the weather has played havoc between farming and curling,.schedules-- no doubt this will straighten up in a couple of weeks as the season picks up momentum. By the way, what happened to those Wednesday and Thur- sday night scores? And finally don't forget the pot luck supper this Saturday night, November 8th. her cowboy boots and the many hours she spent everyday feeding, brushing, watering and riding horses at Lynn Flowers stables outside of town. She'll remember' Lynn as the teacher who first put her on horseback' when she was only 9 - years -old and she'll probably smilewhenshe thinks of the skinny kitten that Lynn gave her as 'a pet. • When' she thinks of Llano, the 20 -year old gelding, Roxanna will remember how he towered over her. But he was gentle and always called o out to Roxanna when she entered the stable. And of course there was Lucky Bonanza, better known as .. Buddy. Roxanna will never forget August 21, her 12th birthday, when the in- ternational and provincial champion palomino pinto arrived as a birthday present from her parents. Roxanna will have forgotten her disap- pointment when her parents wouldn t let her attend a horse riding school in Ohio. She'll remember her mother's words, ' "Your education must come first if you want to be a horse trainer or a veterinarian." When Roxanna grows up, her interests may change but she'll. never forget how to make friends with a horse. She'll tell yon that horses identify things by their sense of smell and the way to gain their trust is togently blow intheir nostrils. Roxanna Edwards may not . remember watching Family Feud on TW and her heart might not take a leap when she hears old Rex Smith and Shaun Cassidy songs, buther memories of being a 12, year-old will be equally happy and important ones., H.S.
