displays were set up in
the morning for the first
year students" to en-
courage their par-
ticipation. As well, there
wasa track and field
competition later in the
day for the Grade 9s.

Blyth features
Family Brown
The Family Brown,
four-- times voted
Canada's top country
group, • will'-hppear in
concert October 18 at
Blyth Memorial Hall.
The group has become
one •of Canada's top
concert attractions
because of their string of
hit singles such as "R.R.
No. 2" and "Stay with
Me ".°
In concert they have
appeared at the Canadian
National Exhibition in
Toronto, Klondike Days
in E din onton and at the
Commonwealth Games
at Edmonton. In 1979 they
made a successful tour of
England.
. Although not all
members of The Family
Brown are related, there
are four members of the
Brown family in the
group. Joe Brown, father
of three of the group
members sings, plays
base and has written
many of the group's
tunes. He's been per-
forming country music
since his early days in
Amherst, Nova Scotia.
. Son Barry, who plays
rhythm guitar and sings,
was voted the Big
Country Music Award for
"Outstanding per-
formance by a Male
Artist."
Tracey Brown is the
youngest member of the
group and has been lead
singer on many of the
group's songs.
Other members of The
Family • Brown include
Ron Sparling on drums,
Dave Dennison, lead
guitarist as well as
performer of some of the
novelty songs and Gary
(Spike) Spicer who plays
steel guitar, lead guitar,
fiddle and sings.
Tickets for the concert
are now available from
the Blyth Centre for the
Arts box office, Box 291,
Blyth at $7.50 each.

Recreation Centre
Special Needs
Recreation at the
Vanastra Centre now
includes these schools:
Golden Circle, Wingham ;
Queen Elizabeth,
Goderich, and Huron
Hope, Centralia.
The Bluewater Centre
will be coming down to
the Centre each Tuesday
afternoon for water
exercise. Asthmatic
exercise classes have
begun and will be held
each Thursday night
from 7:307 to 8:30 p.m.
Anyone interested in
taking guitar lessons
should phone the centre
for more details. A
qualified teacher is
available. Anyone in-
terested in teaching or
taking arts and crafts
programs please phone
the centre at 482-3544.
Bingo winners on
September 16 were: first

Marsh of Wingharn. The

Punk Rock Day. Students
are encouraged to dress

Day and Students will
hopefully wear formal

Terry Fox fund raising
will be held again since .

raised. Students Council
expects at least $900 to
come in.

The CHSS golf team
competed at Listowel and
the players Al Nigh, Greg
Skinner, Brian McCowan
and Scott Kay competed
against eight other teams
and came home vic-
torious.
In winning the Huron -
Perth title, Al shot 79,
Brian had an 80, and Greg
and Scott came in with
93s. The resulting total
comprised of the top
three scores enabled the
team to win. Al Nigh
finished second in the
individual category and
Brian McCowan was
third.
This is the third time
that our school team has
won the Huron -Perth golf
title:
The team now ad-,
vances to the WOSSA
competition on October 9.
It is being held at the
Thames Valley Golf
Course in London.

On Tuesday. September

the highest bidder.
Participation period
was moved from the end
of the day to period one
and all Grade 12s and 13s
as well as some Grade lOs
and 113 squeezed into the
gymn to participate in the
slave auction. Ail Grade 9
students were then taken
to the stage.
Students' Council
president Ed Bullen, who
acted as auctioneer, did a
fine job of selling most of
the Grade 9 students for
bargain prices. Most
slaves sold in the $1 to $5
range although a few sold.
