The manual. for policy
and proCedua esi, proposed
for Goderich Township
irecreation was studied
And discussced thoroughly
at the ree monthly
meeting- Wednesday
September 17, held at the
township office,
Holmesville.. Some
revisions were suggested
and the recom-
mendations will be
carried to council 'for
further approval.
Chairman, Doug Yeo
was in the chair. Also
present were Hazel
McCreath, Walter
McIlwain,'Bev Orr, Alice
Porter, Marilyn Forbes.
The benefit of a five
year developmental plan
for the p -arks`, s
suggested at the last
meeting was discussed
again briefly. It was
moved by Bev Orr
seconded by Walter
Mcllwain that the parks
committee .look into
making a five year plan
re the township parks.
Carried.
Walter Mcllwain
reported that deputy
reeve Garnet Wright has
agreed to be responsible
for ordering new trees for
'80 and '81 but warned
that the process .takes
time.
Since the community
hall is now under con-
struction with completion
date expected in
November, it was noted
that reeve, Grant Stirling
is anxious to set up a sub
committee to handle the
very important job of
managing the community
centre.
A report was received
re the enquiries into
recreation cost tax
exemptions: no rec. costs
are tax free except
capital expenses.
Then followed a short
discussion on the recently
held softball coaches and
executive meeting. It was
noted with admiration
that the township can be
very proud of the well
organized, successful
township , -so f•t b a l l
program of tl`iis past
sum mer.
A question raised last
month by the softball
executive on insurance
coverage for coaches and
players ~travelling to 'and
from outside games, had
been investigated since
by their rec committee. It
was learned that in-
surance is almost im-
possible to buy. However
tide township has liability
insurance for ° its own
parks. Each coach or
driver should check his
own car insurance policy
re the number of
passengers for whom he
is covered.
Parents should realize
it is unfair, unlawful, and
unsafe to overload a
volunteer's car with
passengers to attend
away -from -home games.
News and
notes
from Varna
Ry Mary Chessell
Glenn .''Hayter has
purchased Murdock
Morrison's home,' which
is located on a lot on
Glenn's farm. The
Morrisons will continue
to reside there.
Lloyd and Carol Moore
and children Cindy and
Tim, and Bob and Willa
Taylor attended the
anniversary service at
Varna church on Sunday
and were dinner guests of
Barry and Pat Taylor.
Anniversary and
dinner guests of Mervyn
and Margaret Hayter
were Ken and Eileen
McLean, Glenn and Lois
Hayter and children, Mel
and Margaret Elliott,
Esther Moffat, Florence
Routzon and Elmer and
Noreen Hayter.
Rev. Alun Thomas and
Bob and Elva Peck were
dinner guests of Sim and
Dianne Kirton on Sunday.
Mrs. Blake of
Holmesville and Jim and
Kate Keys were Sunday
guests of Charles and
R rnice Reid and at-
tended the anniversary
service.
It `was noted with regret
that the round dancers
did not renew their
permit to use the town-
ship school for their fall
i'ec.. group prep
and winter dancing,
(They obtained Bothers
accommodations). The
round dancers had been
with the township
recreation program since
the recreation council
began six years ago, In
fact, they prompted t
birth of the rec pro_ -'nn
wh
quired.
Since the school
secretary, Wendy
McLean, is having it was
a permit was
decided to send her a
letter of warm ap-
preciation for her willing
services rendered for
recreat.Qn.
Tentative plans for
some fall activities were
discussed, in crafts,
daytime°fitness, ballroom,
dancing, badminton and
volleyball, •
A guideline for this
season's fees was
discussed. It was moved
by Hazel McCreath,
seconded by Bev Orr and
carried° that $5 per ac-
tivity be charged.
The meeting adjourned
until Oct. 15, at 8:30 ri r7
