Hodgkinson: of
Chesterfield, Derbyshire,
England spent a few days
with Hal and Erma
Hartley at their summer
cottage. Hal and Don who
were war -time friends,
•had not seen each other
since 1945, so had a great
time renewing their
friendship.
Cpl. Don Hodgkinson of
the. R.A.F. was a radar
instructor at R.C.A.F.
Clinton from 1941 to 1944.
Cpl. Hartley was also
instructing at that time.
Although the friends were
sent overseas at different
times, Hal and Don ended
up in England, stationed
at the same R.A.F.
station and have kept in
touch with each other
.since 1945.

Mr. and Mrs. Watt
Webster have just
returned from a two-
week trip to Edmonton,
Alberta. Travelling
through the prairies, they
found farm conditions
very dry in Manitoba and
much the same in
Saskatchewan.
In Alberta, the
situation was almost
reversed with 9.5 percent
of the crops still in •th9
fields because "of rain
which arrived, but too
late..
And the breath of
winter was fast adding to
' other troubles with snow
predicted for Edmonton
last Sunday.

Every year some birds fly south for the winter and
return in the spring. $cientists_thfnk that birds migrate_
because they need food. When the weather becomes too•
cold for birds to survive they will go to where it's
warmer. Birds, prefer to bring up their babies in the best
conditions possible.

Some scientists think that birds know where they are
when they migrate. Perhaps they look down and use
coastlines and mountain ranges to guide them. Maybe
they look up and use the stars and the sun to guide
them.
