Council en August 25, four
applicants out of 17 were

interviewed :for the
position, of township road
employee. A motion was
passed that T. Porter be
hired at $0 per hour for a
six month probationary
period starting; Sep-
tember 2 or 15. If Mr.
Porter does not agree to
these terms,, J. Wain 4s to
be hired at the same
wage and same terms.
A building permit was
issued to Willis Switzer
for renovations to his
house.
The Recreation
Committee was issued' a
licence to conduct a draw
for a dressed beef.
The clerk was in-
structed to contact both
Davidson and Hopper
well -drillers To obtain
quotes on drilling a six
inch well for the township
hall and for cleaning out
the existing well at the
ball park.
H.B. Whitely reported'
to council -that since the
original application for a
$22,406 grant had been
madefor the ball park, a
further $10,892 had been
spent and in addition,
volunteer labor was
valued at $1,944.
At the council meeting
of August 18, Muer
Construction,
represented by • Den-
dekk'er, and Moore, were
present to discuss paint,
hardware, wiring, etc for
the township hall. It was
learned that the Ministry
of Labor requires a fire
alarm system and council
agreed to absorb this

Council instructed the
clerk to invite bids from
five contractors for the
installation of an area
septic_tank tile bed for the
township hall.
Also concerning the
hall, council moved that
E. Rivvett be instructed
to install a'P.A. system as
per his quote of $1,583.60
on August 4; and that
Lakeland Sand and Stone
be engaged to load and
haul gravel to the hall site
at 67 cents per yard.
Dan Wallis was present
to request information on
lake shore erosion con-
trol. No motions were
recorded regarding this.

Festival
keeps
growing
ZURICH - In what has
become an accepted,
norm, the Zurich Bean
Festival once again
proved to be a highly
successful event with
around 15,000 , people
jamming the community
for the 15th annual
celebration of the white
bean.
The August 23 weekend
included a pancake
breakfast, then the
serving of over 1;000 bean
dinners and the crowning
of the year's queen. As
well there was a
magician's show, the
annual frog. jumping
contest, . horseshoe pit-
ching and a dance which
brought 700 people to the
arena.
Runaway car
hits driver
EXETER - Fos the
second time this summer,
the Exeter OPP have
investigated an accident
in which a driver was
struck by their own car. •
The latest incident
occurred on Friday when
Audrey McIntosh of
Zurich sustained minor
irtj.uries when her car
reversed after being
parked on a Zurich street.
The runaway car
knocked Mrs. McIntosh
to the pavement as she
was walking behind it.
The vehicle continued on
to hit a light standard.
