Weekend rain ignored
• AUBURN EXCHANGE
Rain,, rain and more
rain but despite all that
dampness, Auburn had a
Very successful weekend,
Jnaking ", many new
friendships between
citizens in Auburn,
Michigan and Auburn,
Ontario.
The Auburn and
District Lions club
members and the Auburn
folk who had visited
Auburn, Michigan, on the
occasion of their _corniest
last year planned the
weekend.
Visitors were
welcomed at the Auburn
Community Memorial
hall by several ladies who
had prepared delicious
punch bowls. _ After
registering and receiving
souvenirs, visitors were
taken on a tour of the
Auburn stores and the
shop of Ceramics.
Registering was done by
the village clerk, Mrs.
Ross Dobie and Mrs.
Eleanor Bradnock. In all,
25 American friends
signed the book.
Welcoming the guests
officially was done at S
p.m. when Kenneth Scott,
trustee for the Village of
Auburn, spoke in the
• absence of the chairman,
Warner Andrews.
Mr. Scott welcomed the
Auburn, Michigan
residents and presented a
plaque made by Bess
Slater bonding the
friendship with the Sister
City. Gary Straley of the
Chamber of Commerce,
Auburn, Michigan ac-
cepted it from Mrs: Ross
Dobie.
Mr. Straley thanked his
Canadian friends and
invited everyone to come
back next year to their
cornfest celebrations.
Around 85 took part in
the smorgasbord dinner
set up by those who had
visited Auburn, Michigan
last year.
-On Saturday afternoon
some visitors were taken
on a tour of Bill and Tina,
Empey's new log home,
The Old Mill and Bain -
ton's at Blyth, the farm of
Gordon Daer and Mr. and
Mrs. Roy D,aer and the
farm home of Bob
Armstrong.
The Auburn, Michigan
girls met with the
Auburn, Ontario girls at 8
p.m. on Friday evening
and the match turned into
a fun game as the
Mrehigan team was used
to playing slo-pitch and
had different rules. The
girls played softball for
the first part and the
remaining half was slo-
pitch.
On Satutday afternoon
they played I3enmiller
but lost out to them, too.
During the dances on
Friday and, Saturday
evenings on the Banks of
the Maitland many new
American friendships
were made.
At the Saturday
evening dance, Lion Doug
Chamney had the draws.
Winners were: lawn
furniture, Irene Sparks ;
chair, Wanita Hallam;
and the tickets for two for
a • Blue Jay game at
Toronto, Mrs. Ed Berlin
of Auburn, Michigan.
TROPHY PRESENTED
Winner of the A ball
trophy was Clinton.
Housewives. William, S.
Craig of Clinton on behalf
of his brother and sisters,
presented the trophy they
had donated- in memory
of their fattier, William J.
Craig who had been a life-
time player and fan of
ball games.
Winner of the B trophy.
was the Lucknow team
and Joe Dunsmore, sales
representative for'
Molsons presented the
trophy to Judy Draper.

Dungannon, 1 6-.6 ;
Goderich Elevators vs
Lucknow, 11-7.
In this tournament the
winners went in to the A
group and the losers to
the. B group. During the
heavy rain on Sundir
evening the playoffs
between Clinton
Housewives and
Goderich Elevators took
place with the score being
15. to 7.
In the 13 Championship
play-off between
Lucknow and Garb and
Gear they had to play
overtime to break the tie
of 5 to 5 and Lucknow
came out the winners.
