TIPS on wires, codes and groundings
The Canadian Electrical Code recommends an extra
wire be used as part of any grounding system, with this
important 'step:- the ground •'wire in the cable is
connected to the metal box that houses this .oaatlet.
Then a jumper wire is connected from the box to the
- outlet (see diagram). The reason -for -the jumper•wire--
instead of the wire being directly attached to the,
receptacle - is to assure a continuous ground at all
times.
ff the outlet were to be removed,and:the wires't'aped,.
the ground would terminate in the air. The jumper cable
method assures this will not happen with the
grounding wire connected to the box the ground is
maintained.
