Mary Fretz of Listowel was flying his Cessna 182 back from North Bay when he attempted to land the plane at the Johnston Airstrip near Atwood. Coming in on a night landing, the pilot discovered that the lights on the runway where off and icing conditions forced him to make an emergency landing in a field adjacent to the runway. Frozen manure on the field allowed the plane to ruake a safe landing. Mr. Fretz's wife explained that if the plane had landed on the runway it would hve flipped over in the two feet of snow that covered the landing strip. r then, worked four years at Bell Canada before returning to` UWO for., a: master's degree in physics and a teaching ted Clinton. radar to the RCAF di nnu research; post.
