citizens gathered at the
Clinton Legion on
October 17 for the fall

the Clinton Golden
Radars Senior Citizens
Club. •
'Harry Baker of
Bayfield, president of
Zone 8, called the
meeting to order in song
with Lorna Radford
accompanying at the
piano. After a moment of
sile"nc\e for deceased
members, Rev. James
Broadfoot, rector of St.
Paul's Anglican Church
in Clinton, conducted the
devotions.. He spoke on
the importance of our
bodies, particularly our
hands.
Mayor Harold Lobb
expressed greetings on
behalf of Clinton and
wished everyone a happy
and rewarding day. Mrs.
Irene Johns, Zone
secretary from Exeter,
read a report of the
spring rally held on May 1
in Grand Bend and
treasurer Charels
Martini read the financial
report.
Mrs. Gwen Pemberton
from the Consumers
Association of Canada
was introduced by Mr.
Baker as the guest
speaker. Mrs. Pemberton
gave an informative
adress on the problems
facing consumers today.
She began she talk with a
quote by Isaac Walton
who said, "Everybody's
SS an
business is nobody's
business." She Olen
proceeded to talk about
the a days of the depression
through to the affluent
60's with rising prices,
expensive advertising,
overspending, fancy
packaging, - junk foods,
lotteries, financing and
cresilt cards, and high
taxes.
Mrs.Pemberton ex-
pressed on the group
their duties: first to care
for themselves with
nutrition, exercise and.
freedom from accidents
and secondly by being
involved with life around
them and expressing out
opinions to the proper
authorities concerning
things that should be
changed.
She would like to see a
branch of the Consumers
Association set up in
Huron County along with
a distict health council.
Mrs. Nola Love of
Dashwood, the zone vice
president, thanked Mrs.
Pemberton for her talk
and presented her with a
gift of appreciation.
Attendance wasthen
taken and clubs attending
came from Goderich,
Exeter, Brussels, Zurich,
Clinton, Grand Bend,
Seaforth, Hensall,
Bayfield and Dashwood.
There was no
representation from
Blyth.
The Clinton ladies
served lunch and an hour
of friendship and
•
eafth stressed
fellowship was followed
by Mr.. Baker convening a
meeting of the executive
and president . of each
club.
It was decided to hold a
Spring Rally and plans
•will be made.• Each club
was reminded of its. $4
affiliation fee to the'
USCO which is payable at,
the beginning of the year.
When questionned
about the term `year' Mr.
Baker said it is
customary but not
obligatory for the club
year to be from Sep-
tember 1 to September 1.
The afternoon session
began with a sing -song
led by Lorna Radford at
the piano. Mrs. Nola
Love, then gave her
report as the delegate to
the 21st annual con-
vention at the Kingston
University.
In her report, Mrs.
Love commented on the
beautiful facilities
While at the
convention, Mrs. Love
met Flora McDonald,
who was the guest
speaker. Mrs. Love was
impressed by her
knowledge and per-
sonality.
Also in her report, Mrs.
Love explained that
seniors should live by the
three I's: first,
Independence, to do all
we can for ourselves;
second, Involvement, to
get out and help others in
our day; third,
Integration, work
together with all age
groups to improve life as
a whole. She noted that
USCO is a strong union
and we must support it in
every way.
After the discussion of
79 resolutions, an in-
terlude of mouth organ
music wak given by Watt
Webster and piano solos
were played by Elmer
Trick.
George Rumball,
pretiden't of the Golden
Radars introduced guest
speaker Grace Bird,
home ' economist for
Huron, who spoke on good
nutrition. and also
showed an interesting
film which depicted all
the things seniors need
for a healthy, happy life,
including eating good
meals, not eating alone
all the time, good
shopping habits, exercise
and giving pleasure to
others when possible.
Miss Bird also an-
nounced that a short
course, The Common
Sense Approach to
Nutrition and Cooking for
One or Two, is to be
presented free in Exeter
on November 14, in
Wingham on November
20 and 22 and at the Huron
Day Care Centre at
Huronview on November
15, 19, 27 and 30. The
course will be held from 1
to3pm.
Len Carter, vice
president of the Bayfield
Club, thanked Miss Bird
for her presentation and
presented her with a gift
of appreciation.
Mr. Baker then
thanked John Deeves for
the use of the Legion
facilities and thanked his
executive for their
cooperation and hard
work in preparing the
Rally. Mrs. Irene Young
of Goderich, second vice.
president of Zone ,8
thanked the entertainers,
the speakers and the
Golden Radars for
hosting the rally and the
ladies for preparing the
lunch.

Live in Bayfield
Following a wedding trip to. California Mr. and Mrs.
Mark Robert Hartman made their new home in
Bayfield. The couple were married on September 15 in
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
Arrangements of gladioli, mums and carnations
filled the church for the double ring ceremony con-
ducted by Father Al Sasso and special music was
provided by Jane Sullivan.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Har-
tman of RR 1, Bayfield. The bride, the former
Mathilda Johanna Maria Kester, is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Kester of RR 2, Dashwood.
For the occasion the bride wore a floor length gown
of imported Swiss lace over polyester satin, with lace
trim at the neckline and hem. It was sewn by Florence
Miller of Clinton. She wore a small caplet headdress
with a two-tiered medium length veil and carried a
bouquet of sonya roses and baby's breath, trimmed
with green velvet ribbon.
Jenny Kester of Dashwood, a sister of the bride, was
the maid of honor. She wore a pale yellow polyester
blouson syled gown. She carried a basket of yellow
daisies, white carnations, brown poppies and baby's
breath trimmed with brown velvet ribbon.
The bridesmaids were Mathilda Martens from
Zurich, a cousin of the bride and Mrs. Betty Kinnaird
of Stratford, a friend of the bride.. They were gowned
in dresses identical to.the maid of honor.
The best man was Brian Miller of Clinton and the
ushers were Bruce Miller of Bayfield and Keith
Bottema of Clinton.
A reception was held in the Dashwood Community
Centre following the ceremony. The bride's mother
wore a floor length gown of dusty rose polyester. The
groom's mother wore a long gown of apple green
polyester trimmed with lace.
Prior to the wedding the bride was honored at a
number of showers including those given by: Mrs.
Annie Hartman of Clinton; Mrs. Dianne Miller of
Bayfield; aunts and neighbors of the bride and ladies
of the Mt. Carmel Parish.

Emerson Heard, for-
merly of Bayfield died in
his 89th year.
Beloved .husband, of the
late Annie Heard, he is
survived by children
Betty (Mrs. Herbert
Kirkham) of London;

Bayfield and grand -
Children Donald, Linda
and Larry. He was
predeceased by three
brothers.
He rested at the Ball
Funeral Home, Clinton
where a memorial ser-
vice was held by the
Loyal Orange Lodge on

p.m. The funeral service -
was held at Trinity

October 18, 1979 and
interment was in

Varna were wed in a
double ring ceremony on
October 6 in the Varna
United Church. Rev. W.
Brown conducted the
ceremony and special
music was provided by
Mrs. Doug McAsh.
The groom is the son of
Mrs. Gloria Youngblut of
Vanastra and the late
Ronald Paterson. The
bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. William
Taylor of Varna.
The bride was gowned
in a candlelight shaded
dress of French interlock.
The gown featured a high
neckline' and bodice
trimmed with lace, long
bishop sleeves and_a full
length skirt which flowed
into a cathedral train.
She wore a .carriage
styled. hat .„with silk
illusion veil and carried a
bouquet of red roses.
Donna Glanville from
Seaforth was the matron
of honro. She wore a rust
colored,; cocktail length
dress.
'Mike Johnston of
London vyas the best man
and guests were ushered
into the. church by Kevin
Paterson of Clinton.
The bride's mother
wore a grape colored
peau de sois cocktail
length dress • with gray
accessories' and a pink
corsage. The groom's
mother wore a gray
cocktail length gown with
burgandy accessories
and a pink corsage.
Following the
ceremony a reception
• was held at the Oinerdige
Chalet.
Prior to the wedding
the bride was honored at
a shower given by her
friends, Kathy Ruegar
and Donna Glanville. A
shower_for her relatives,
hosted by Bonnie Pollock
and Marilyn Blake, was___
held and a community
shower took place in the.

home to Clinton on
Octobe`r 17. He was 67 '
years old.
Mr. Plumb was born in
Saskatchewan on Sep-
tember 19, 1912 to. Mr. and
Mrs. John Franklin
Plumb.
Mr. Plumb served in
the army in World War II
aired in 1945 married
Barbara •Anions in
London, England.
Following their marriage
the couple lived” in
Petrolia. and' Mr. Plumb
farmed in the Kippen
area.. Mr. Plumb also
served as Com-
missionaire at CFB,
Clinton and at the Bendix
plant in Hensall.
Along with his wife, Mr.
Plumb is survived by one
son Monty of RR 2,
Staffa. Two grand-
children and a sister Mrs.
Jack (Joan) Adams of
Tampa, Florida and a
brother David of Dor-
chester also survive him.
Mr. Plumb was
predeceased by his
parents.
Rev. James Broadfoot
conducted funeral ser-
vices on October 20 at the
Beattie Funeral Home.
Interment followed in the
Hensall Union Cemetery.
The pallbearers in-
cluded Irwin Ferris,
David Brock, Vern
Alderdice, Jim
McGregor, Ken McLean
and John Puttock.

died in Vitoria Hospital in
London on October 14
following a lengthy
illness, He was 52 years
old.
The Koekange, Holland
native was barn on
December 26,,-1926, to Mr.
and Mrs. Roelf"De Weerd.
When he • came to
Canada ',Mr. De Weerd
farmed in the Woodstock
area in 1951 and in 1952 he
married the • form.er
Styntje Drost in Drayton.
Mr. De Weerd came to
the. Clinton .area in 1958
and farmed at RR 1,
Londesboro.
He was a member and
deacon at the Christian
Reformed Church in
Clinton.
Mr. De Weerd is sur-
vived by his wife and his
father. He is also sur-
vived by four daughters,
Mrs. Ross (Trudy)
MacDonald of
Whitechurch, Janis of
Toronto and Dianne and
Janet at home, along with
four. sons, Ralph and Ken
of RR 1, Londesboro and
Tim and John, both at
home.
Along with five
grandchi\Idren, Mr. De
Weerd is survived by five
sisters from Holland,
Mrs. Lambert (Geesje)
Zwiers, Mrs. Jans
(Fygje) Mulder, Mrs.
Berend (Tinie) Padding,
Mrs. Frans (Willie) De
Vries and Mrs, Roelf
(Hen ...e) Veld. A brother,
Tiezne\ of Holland ° also

Mr. De Weerd rested, at
the Beattie Funeral hone
and on October 17 ser-
vices were held at the
Christian. Reformed
Church. Rev. Arie Van
Den Berg conducted the
service and interment

Cemetery.
