Be sure to join in on all the fun on August 17th and 18th. The Adventureland Park is now finished. This is the park behind the Recreation Centre. The money that was used for some of the equipment was raised two years ago by the hard work , of Sandra McLachlan, Diane Ryan and June Jeacock. Did anybody notice that we have been invaded again! All the Easterners have returned! We hope You all had a good holiday. Bad News Bears The pee wee boys from Tuckersmith Township travelled to Exeter, on Tuesday, July 31. This was a really good game with Exeter winnineby one run, with final score being 35 to 34. Congratulations to Cemal Unsal for •hitting a home run. The boys played a home game on• Monday, August 6th against Huron Park, who won the game with a score of 32-6. The team has one more game to be played Wednesday, August 8. Helpful Hints Use a wire needle threader .to •pull snags in polyester doubleknit through to the underside. Push the threader through the, material frefri the underside. The threader won't split the thred like a crochet hook would. Reinforce the feet of children's pajamas by using iron -on corduroy patches. Cotton swabs make great shirt -collar stays. They are the perfect length, they keep the collars firm, and the padded tips will not wear out collar material. Reuse the elastic waistbands from old pantyhose in slacks and shorts. Some Varna people- - show fishing t4ents _ By Mary Chessell Well, friends, here I am, back from a two- week holiday, at Munro Park near Powassan, and attempting to catch up on local news. It's a good thing that most of the farmers around here can work hard while enjoying a good time, too, or farm production might suffer. Besides playing a lot of hockey and ball, some of them have taken to fishing. You may see Charles and Bernice Reid on ,the pier at Bayfield trying to catch enough perch for supper; now the Barry Taylors have got - into it with a few days of successful fishing with the Chessells at Powassan. • Pat and the kids caught a lot of fish, but -Barry held out for quality and • size - he caught a really big bass and a fine big pickerel. The women had a holiday from some of the cooking, as Barry's a pretty good cook on the barbecue grill and the camping party's wood stove. Gordon and , Lorna Johnston and Charles and Bernice Reid enjoyed a trip on the Chi-Cheem,aun from Tobermory to Manitoulin, then con- tinued the circle by way of North Bay, stopping in to visit,Morris and Connie Taylor at Kilworthy. • Our congratulations to Janice Webster on being crowned Queen of the Zurich Fair. Alex and Marie Voisin have purchased Moe and Trudy Hill's house west of Varna. The Hills are moving to Clinton on Aug. 15 to the house on Prin- cess Street, west of Beckers, that they bought from Ken Stephenson. We hope they and their girls will enjoy living in town. Brenda Dowson returned a week ago Sunday from three weeks with , Mr. and Mrs. Joe Young in Brownsfield, Texas. She was there on a Lions Club Youth Exchange, and toured places of interest in the area. Miss -Rita Vonland of Atlanta, Georgia is at present staying with the Dowsons on the same program. She spent a • week at a camp at Wildwood, near St. Marys, from where she made trips to Toronto, Stratford, Goderich, Clinton and Seaforth. During her two weeks with the Dowsons, they spent Thursday at Collingwood and Wasaga Beach, and Bill, Joyce, John and Rita attended the Lucknow Lions Youth Exchange picnic at Amberley on Sunday. On Monday night the Dowson family entertained the Bayfield Lions and Lioness Clubs and their wives and husbands to a barbecue in honour of Rita. Being on a farm is a new experience for her. She will be leaving for home on Saturday. Recent visitors with -Murdock and Ruth Morrison were her cousin Russell Brownell and his wife Kay from Thorburn, Nova Scotia, and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Van Patter from Luton, Ont., Mr. Morrison's former charge near Aylmer. Paul Consitt par- ticipated in a floor hockey tournament in Toronto recently, playing for the Mid -western Regional Centre at Palmerston. ' 'l7om and Barb Consitt, Lori and Paul, were to the Calgary Stampede. While in the West, they visited Bob and Donna Lavery at Banff and enjoyed a tour of the area around here. They'also called on Ruth and Edgar Willert at Innisfail, Alta., Dave and Helen -•Manning, Mrs. David Johnston and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Manning of Pilot Mound, Man. Congratulations to Lloyd and Nora Heard who celebrated a double 30th wedding anniversary with Mrs. Heard's sister Louise Presber and her husband Charles. The Heards .. went to, the Presbers' home in Naican, Saskatchewan on July 14. While there, the Heards attended the wedding of a friend, who was married on their anniversary. They also saw many old friends and relatives and a highlight of their visit was a day 'of fishing on Popan Lake, north of Niagawin. They easily caught the limit of Pickeral and then en- joyed a big fish fry. Highest Savings Account Rate Ever!
