President, Dr. • Jennie Robertson who is 102 years of age and resides Poultry show held On Sunday, July 15, Clifford and Laura Pepper of R.R. 1, Dash- wood were hosts for the second annual lawn show and family picnic for the Huron County Poultry, Pigeon and Pet- Stock Association. There were 95 entries judged by Gordon Ridler, Cliff Pepper and Harvey Daniels. Prizes were .awarded to Best Large Fowl - White Leghorn Cock - C. Pep- per, bashwood; Best Opposite Sex Large Fowl - Australarp Pullet, Errol Shlotzhauer, Milverton; Best Bantam - Black Cochin Hen, Barry Cleave, Bayfield; Best Opposite- Sex - Golden Sebright Cock, Jim Millar, Kincardine; and Best Pigeon - Show Pen Homer Cock, Emery Baechler, Goderich. There were $5 specials awarded for best - large fowl, best Bantam and best pigeon. Watering pans were donated by Robert. Monteith of Sarnia ,for Best Opposite - Sex . large fowl - and Bantam. . A memorial trophy was presented to the club by the family of the late J. Burton Mills,, who passed away in January. He was a charter member of the club. and an active poultry breeder . and judge for over 50 years. The presentation was ,made by his daughter, Norine Cas-sidy', -who expressed the wish that the cup would perpetuate - the interest in cochin bantams and be presented yearly at the club's annual September show to the exhibitor ,of' :.at . Among those coming the farthest distances were Helen and Fred Howe of Tucson, Arizona, and Dr: Ivan Smillie of Kamloops, B.C., a medical doctor who practised in Hensall for ten years, many years ago. He brought greetings and good wishes for the future, and reminded everyone of the annual Smillie reunion on the Pacific Coast, which takes place at the home of Dr. Roy Smillie in Vic-: toria, B.C. on August 28, 1979. The budget- was increased to • $47,000 from $35,000. John O'Leary of Staffa, chairman of the building and- property committee, asked for the $12,000 ihcrease at a board -meeting in Dublin 1V1Onday. Mickey Vere of Stratford, a member of the committee, said, "This board must put more money into maintaining the schools. We have to have more money in the budget."
