Like the spirit that carried us through the Centennial in 1975, the Fair gives us all that sense of belonging and puts Clinton on the map as the hub of Huron County. +++ Dr. and Mrs. Walter Oakes of Owen Sound visited in Clinton over the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brown. They attended the Clinton Fair on Saturday, to the joy of many who met them, then stayed to attend the Wesley -Willis United Church 50th an- niversary services held on Sunday, June 2. Five members of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority attended the annual convention in Windsor from June 1 to 3. Travelling together were Ann Adams, MO Dobson, Lois Fitzgerald, Audrey Kemp and Vivian Roy. Members stayed at the Holiday Inn and at- tended sessions at the Cleary Auditorium. Some 700 delegates were present, the majority from Ontario with some representation from the States and as far away as Newfoundland. One of the guest speakers was Martha Bohrert of the international office of the sorority. In addition to the business agenda, the ladies were treated to a tour of Art in the Park, a fashion show, and a performance by the Windsor Light Opera Company. On Sunday morning an in- terdenominational church service was held in the Holiday Inn. +++ The Birthday Party held at Oranage Hall Tuesday, May 29 was well attended with visitors from Woodham, Mitchell, Seaforth and 710 Men's Lodge Clinton. The evening started with euchre being played. Prizes went to: ladies' high -Evelyn Errington; gent's high -Oliver Jacques; ladies' low - Florence Boyd; and low hand -Oliver Jacques. The birthday draws were won by: first -Dorothy O'Connell; second -Leona Lockhart; and third - Evelyn Errington. This was followed by the Reverend G.A. Anderson of Exeter showing scenes from Ireland and dif- ferent parades of July 12. The Orange Hall of Ireland where Rev. Anderson joined is the largest hall in the world. To round out a vey pleasant evening, san- dwiches and a birthday cake were served in the basement of the Lodge. This was the 58th birth- day and all enjoyed the evening. +++ Lawn bowling at the Clinton Greens officially started on Thursday night, May 31, when the Club held its first Jitney for this season with -16 bowlers in attendance. Some of the most en- thusiastic appreciation for the Clinton Fair's fine parade has come from the patients of the Clinton Public Hospital. Bringing the parade a few blocks off the route meant a great deal of those patients who were able to view it at first hand. +++ The Clinton Recreation Committee in conjunction with the Ministry of Culture and Recreation is conducting an "interest survey" of the town of Clinton to determine what type of recreational facilities are at present in use and what others could be added. This Saturday, June 9 at 10 a.m. a two-hour workshop with Heather Earle will take place. • In this workshop Heather, a former member of Cod .Co and the instructor of our last workshop, will teach various dramatic techniques, allowing plenty of opportunity for each child to test his or her dramatic ability. Due to the fact that this workshop must remain small, the library will be issuing tickets to the first 20 children between the ages of seven and 10 wishing to participate in this event. Clinton lady wins bingo pot Valerie Miller of Clinton went home a happy lady, after at- tending the season opener of the Clinton Monster Bingo. She won the giant jackpot of $1,000. Fred Sears of Goderich won a special prize of $123 and Helen Elliott of Dublin took a pot of $113. Bertha Gibb of Clinton and Edith Baird of Brucefield split a special prize of $131.50. In regular $50 games, single winners included Phyllis Lee of Clinton, Mrs. Bill Austin of Seaforth, Gwen McCool of Wingham, Esther Kendall of Clinton, Barbara Winteririgham of Mitchell and Vicki Colquhoun of Clinton. Celebrate 40th anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Harry Boag Newmarket; Mrs. and Mrs. Norman Willis, Kitchener; Mr. Ephraim Clarke, Huronview were among the 325 relatives and friends who attended the 40th wedding an- niversary party for Lorne and Viola Lawson at Family Paradise on Saturday evening, June 2. Mrs. Bill Flynn and her Huron Ramblers supplied the music and the ad- dress was composed and read by Lorne's cousin, Mrs. Harry Boag. The Huron Strings made up of Warren Whitmore, Wilson McCarthy, Marie Flynn, Lorne Lawson with Gary Rlack at the piano, played a few musical numbers. Lunch was arranged and supervised by Mr. and Mrs. John George and staff of Family Parr disc' to end a pleasant evening. FACS summer program set The Family and Children's Services of Huron County (FACS) announced plans for the 1979 Summer Program. The program will be offered to any children living in the county and is totally supported by donations from local organizations • and in- dividuals. Last year the Agency sent 100 needy children to summer camp. This year the Agency expects even greater demands on the program. In addition to the camp program, the Agency will be planning day trips for children and involving volunteer ef- forts of local high school students. John Penn, Director, said, "A donation of $40 will en- sure a place for a child at camp this year and we hope to raise about $4,000."
