Clinton News-Record, 1979-05-30, Page 16Ask PAGE 16--CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, THURSDAY, MAY 31, 1979 Hospital Auxiliary Hear of conference The Highlight of the May' meeting of the Auxiliary to the Clinton Public Hospital was a report presented by Mrs. Joyce Chilton of Bayfield of the recent spring conference of Region II of the Flospital Auxiliaries Association held in St. Marys. Mrs. Chilton reported that 11 Clinton members attended the informative day session. Each auxiliary president, for the roll gall, reported on rnethods of raising funds R and how the money was spent. A panel, one member of which was Peggy Men- zies of Clinton, discussed the subject, How Do You See the Future Roll of the Volunteer? All three panelists agreed that the need is greater now than.. ever before. Volunteer service is necessary and no•doubt will be needed to raise funds for buying equipment and perhaps even for building. Mrs. Gerry Van den Berg reported on the interesting display of tray favors prepared by each auxiliary. Clinton showed corsages of crocheted flowers. Mrs. Van den Berg made copies of some in- teresting favors to show the members the creativity used in their preparation. In the absence of Hon. William Stewart, because of illness, Richard Brock was the quesit speaker. In his talk, Mr. Brock emphasized the im- portance, in the present economy, to buy Canadian made goods and home grown produce when possible, instead of imported ones. Mrs. Dawna Westlake in the business meeting expressed her ap- preciation of the large attendance and in- troduced two new members, Mrs. Jeanne girls for their volunteer work and also expressed appreciation of the coverage given to the candy stripers by the Clinton News -Record. Vanden Berg officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Guetter, of RR 4, Clinton, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Brooks, Windsor. The bride's' attendants were Miss Janice deWeerd, friend of the bride; Miss Carolyn Guetter, sister of the bride; and Miss Louanne Labadie friend of the bride. The groom's attendants were Robert Maaskant, friend of the groom, George Guetter, brother of the bride and Steve Brooks, brother of the groom. The organist was Mr. Dick Roorda and Mrs. Chris Bylsma was the soloist. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the White Carnation, at Holmesville. . Seniors week at Huronview The residents of Huronview, along with senior citizens of Ontario, will celebrate Senior Citizens week:from June 17-24. The committee of management of Huron.view has declared open house for the week and invites all senior citizens to come and join in the programs. For this week only, the dining room will be open to Senior Citizens visitors at a nominal charge for both the dinner and supper meal. It would be appreciated if individuals who are not with a.club and who are planning to stay for meals would let Mary Giblings - 482-3451 know in advance. Clinton WI remember Mrs. Popp At the Clinton WI meeting on May 24, a minute of silence was observed in remem- brance of Mrs. Amber Popp, a life member of the group, who died this month. The WI president, Mrs, M. Batkin, read a paper on the busy life of Miss Helen McKercher. The ladies were reminded that the Huronview Tea will be held on June 6. WI members are invited to help prepare goods and items for the bake table or the auxiliary craft table. Arrangements were also made to host the birthday party for Huronview on June 27. The WI will also staff the cart at the hospital for the last two days in May. - The roll call was an- swered by naming an industry in Huron County. Posters on Agriculture in Huron and the inm dustries shown on a map of the county were on display. Mrs. Cecil Elliott gave a commentary on the maps. The guest speaker at the meeting was Miss Jean Siertsema, dairy princess ' of Huron. She showed a film on the making of cheddar cheese and answered questions. Delegates were chosen for the West Huron Rally at Holmesville on May 28. Nine ladies were able to attend. Brucefield Sunshine Sisters meet The May meeting of the Sunshine Girls of Brucefield was held on May 23 at the home of Deb Burdge, when Bev Broadfoot opened the meeting with a lovely poem entitled "The World is Mine". • The business portion of the meeting was led by the president, with Gayle Pepper reading the minutes of the last meeting and the treasurer's report. Next month Esther Cantelon will show everyone what to save for the projects that we do together. Bev displayed several articles that she has already made, and they are truly lovely. Next month is "pot luck" night at 7 p.m. at Betty Ross' and the Sunshiners were asked to help at a wedding at the Clinton man dies Thomas Stewart Moodie A Clinton resident, Thomas Stewart Moodie, died in Clinton hospital do May 17. He was 67 years old. Mr. Moodie was born at Sand Point in 1911. In October, 1938 he married Margaret Walters in Norwichand the couple lived there and in Clinton. Mr. Moodie was a veteran of World War II. Along with his wife, Mr. Moodie is survived by three children, Karen Richardson of Clinton, Gordon of Stratford and Mrs. Linda (D.) Dagenais of Saskatoon.
