Plan meeting
for proposed
township hall
The Goderich Township
recreatibn council held a
special meeting Thur-
sday May 24 at the
township office,
Holmesv{lle to meet with
field workers, Mrs.
,Louise Marrat and Miss
Valarie Gilmor of Rural
Development Outreach
and to learn how
university resources can
benefit rural people.
Examples of help
available were given;
such as townships maps
of municipal drains
catalogued, help in
setting up a township
plan, museum work -help
in cataloguing items,
man -power to get work
projects going in certain
areas. Louise and Valeri
said that they would be
the liaison agents between
the township recreation
and university resource
people to help in any
planning.
Recreation council
problems tumbled out
from all members, while
the very amicable
visitors took careful
stock. After a lengthy rap
session hinging mainly on
the slow interest in the
proposed new township
hall, it was decided to
conduct a carefully
prepared public meeting
on the township hall on
Wednesday June 6 in
advance a good format of
questionaires for
discussion will be set up.
Then Tuesday May 29 is
ear marked for rec
council .training in con-
ducting the several
discussion groups at the
public meeting.
So' that the proposed
new township hall project
'is a success public par-
ticipation is a •must. In -
order to get this project
off-- the -ground, it must
begin with the - people.
Per§onal contact will be.
made to see that 'an
overflow crowd- attends -,
the public meeting on
Wednesday June 6 at 8
p.m. at Holmesville
public school.
t was announced that
trinownship council had
hired Kyles and Garrat
architect firm in Strat-
ford to prepare and
oversee construction for
the township hall,
following the public
meeting on June 6.
In other business, it
was decided to go ahead
on _ the swim program
with Sherwood bus
service to Vanastra in
July at a cost of $18 per
child, $50 for a family of 3
or more. Registration
forms were handed out
for delivery to the in-
terested township
swimmers. More ate
available from the
secretary.
It was decided to make
a recommendation to
township council that
identification labels be
made on the township
picnic tables at Lakeside
Park.
' Doug Yeo reported he
had sought avenues of
help for a summer
cleanup project at the
new sports complex site
in the proposed picnic
area. It was decided to
ask deputy reeve, Garnet
Wright council rep for
Maitland Valley Con-
servation to enquire help
from the Ministry of
Natural Resources.
The meeting adjourned
until Tues. May 29 at 8
p.m. -by Audrey Mid-
dleton
