When enough of the patches have been saved, sew them together to make a sturdy beach blanket. To make an attractive washable case for sunglasses, fold a pretty potholder in half, stitch across the bottom and up one side. If synthetic fibre threads unwind too quickly and wrap around your sewing machine spindle, encase the spool in a one -inch -wide ring cut from a toilet paper roll. This will control the flow of the thread. Slip the ring over the spool. Thread the machine, with the thread coming over the top rim of the card- board ring. The flow of the thread will be slowed.
